<div class="IPBDescription">Similar sound to Prodigy?</div> Ok, honestly, I just started listening to Prodigy again. I bought the Fat of the Land album a few years back, and I really liked it. I recently started listening to them again (thanks Fam <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->) And I want to know if there are any other Electonnic groups/artists with a similar sound?
Comments
- Propellerheads, very similar in style a little less epic and a little more rap-like
- Fatboy Slim, a little less hardcore but still enjoyable; his new album is quite good - "Palookaville". "You've Gone a Long Way Baby" is a safe choice otherwise.
- Daft Punk, a little more electronic but both albums are pure genius. It makes very good background music as it tends to be a bit repetitive.
- Rage Against the Machine, not really electronic, has a lot of similarities with Prodigy. If you don't know much about them you really should give them a try.
If you want something a little more mellow but still within electronica, check out these guys:
- St Germain, ambient, instrumental, flows very nicely.
- Dimitri from Paris, a great listening experience, very French.
- Air, "Moon Safari" is by far their best album, soft and soothing.
Daft Punk
Infected Mushroom (pretty much techno)
Chemical Brothers (More techno)
I have more but I have to sleep.
Sonic Mayhem is similar to prodigy(you can get some songs of theirs free by ripping the audio from your quake2 cd)
Air is very chill, very mellow, its really wonderful to listen to, but quite unlike prodigy.
hmm is sounds like you like Industrial type music
KMFDM
Rob D.
Propellerheads
Faceless
Lunatic Calm
Unit 187
Urban Voodoo
Hive
Megadeth
Eve Project
Juno Reactor
Pitchshifter
Cirrus
Fracture
Wolfsheim
I even use it if the place where i'm Dj'ing is using a wanna-be-wussy dj cd player thing.
Prodigy has great techno rock songs. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
That is what they are
And Prodigy have a new album coming out soon, I don't know if you have it in the US but here in the UK the BMW 1 Series new advert with the girl on the trike, the foal and the tortoise has an awesome track that is (according to various websites) a track from the next Prodigy album.
<b>Needle Sharing</b>
His first album "My Kind Came First" is solid gold, so find it. The new one, called "Switching to Channel Inferno", is absolutely awful. Stay away at all costs.
<b>Venetian Snares</b>
"Doll Doll Doll" is the album to go for. The ones before that are okay, but the newer stuff like "Winter in the Belly of a Snake" and "The Chocolate Wheelchair" are useless gimmick music.
<b>Klangstabil</b>
As odd as it may sound, you might enjoy the new Klangstabil album "Taking Nothing Seriously". Especially the song "Push Yourself".
<b>Sonar</b>
Sonar's entire discography is based on heavy looping and broken rhythmic structures. Good stuff for loud listening.
<b>Tarmvred</b>
The king of broken beats and 8-bit melodies.
<b>Skinny Puppy</b>
The new Skinny Puppy album "The Greater Wrong of the Right" is worth taking a look at. The older albums are for the most part more difficult listening, but in my opinion better.
<b>Synapscape</b>
Way noisier than anything you've probably head before, but a damn good combination of distorted, dirty technoid music and vocals.
Some of this stuff is really off the deep end of the pool but everything new's worth trying, right?
(Infected rules your ponce!)
Oh and btw while on the topic of music, has anyone heard
Infected Mushrooms - Meduzz from the new cd "I'm the Supervisor"?
What other bands make the same kind of music, as in use guitarr, classical insturements and all that?
Have you picked up any older albums yet? Music for the Jilted Generation? The Prodigy Experience? Not quite as 'big' as their recent hit, but you can't argue with songs like 'Jericho', or 'Space'.
A bit more chilled out (getting closer to my normal listening), there is Chicane, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Plump DJ's.

Speaking of Chicane, <a href='http://www.ets-global.org' target='_blank'>ETS Global</a>'s most recently hosted bittorrent is of Chicane's live performance at Palladium in January of 2000. Like any other bittorrent it puts up, it's legally a free download, so you can try it out to see if you like the style.
EDIT: Also, yeah, I'd recommend Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares and Tarmvred. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
