Annoying Marines

Lately when the alien players has become more and more experienced and know the marine res nozzles I've noticed the marines lose more and more. I'm not saying that the game is unbalanced (yet, dunno bout the bile bomb bug & etc) but I say the marines NEED to learn teamwork and listen to the commander. Too often when I command I send off the marines to rez noz, build a res twr and gather up for turret factory. I tell them to defend target but instead they just run away, and yell "omg alien outpost SHOTGUN" or even better, "WOHOO I FOUND REZ NOZ. COmmander build here build here!!" Then the first rez twr gets killed and they say you suck because you didn't build where they wanted to 1000 miles away from their original wp.
[Example]
On a game I was commander with 2 probably pretty good alien players (good aim & stuff). They ran away to take out a hive(which they failed), sure they killed lots of aliens but in the meantime our outposts got wacked too. Then they kept yelling that they wanted to vote me out because I didn't support them. I tell them that they were MILES away from their wp but they didn't listen. Later on the other marine players told them to quit and listen to me. Not strangely we won that game becaus I must say these to guys were really good with the weapons, where other would died they wiped out the aliens.
[Example]
So what I'm asking for you marines out there: "Please follow the commanders orders and do not **obscenity** him unless he's really sucking.

I totally agree. It is one of the things that really get on my nerves as a commander. I am very big on waypoints and marines doing exactly as I say. That way I can direct two or three "squads" all over the map. The problem is that marines NEVER want to guard, and when I say guard I mean jump on top of the darn thing and don't wander away. I am having to send 3 or so guys to one place because odds are 1 of those will guard.

One more thing a commander should do is try and play on the same server. Marines are infinately more reliable and willing to listen if they know you can lead them to victory. You'll also have other marines helping you tell those guys asking for hmgs 30 seconds into the game to shut up and do what you say

And in return for being a nice little jarhead, the Big Guy In The Sky will drop an HMG on your head later on, and watch over you like a violent guardian angel.

I had a lovely game last night with a commander named F3rret. After a slow build-up start (which kept the rushers at bay) I merrily moved to waypoints, secured nozzles, built up turrets, and maintained excellent communications.

Then poof - HMG/HA get dropped on my head, I'm "squad commander" and leading a pack of troops. Whenever I was hurt or needed ammo - it was there before I even asked. I was getting welded on a regular basis, and commanding my own little pack of HMG-wielding deathmachines. Heck, F3rret even had the squad cover me when I had to run to the bathroom. Marine utopia.

We plowed out chamber forests galore and a hive - then when it was down to only two of us wandering, the CC got nailed by a rogue pack of Kharaa. And with no commander to drop health or ammo, I was clipped out with a welder and 14 health.

To the amusement of all observing and playing - I fell to my death. Sigh.

Marines seem to have skipped their actual training which makes them follow orders etc. without a doubt.
Obviouslly if your commander is not doing a good job you should tellhim to leave/ vote him out.
Also in parallel to obeying the commanders orders you should use COMMON SENSE as to what you should do at the area assigned etc.

It seems that now a day, the Commander isn't TRULLY the commander but is the Marine's **obscenity**

I salute those commanders who have preserved their integrity and ability to command their troops into the heat of battle.

I wish I could find servers with commanders that actually command.

I know I'd follow orders, but I never get orders to follow.

    Then I go alien.

I'd just like to add a coralary to the "bad commander" thing. If you CO is a newb, give him a chance. I'm a good commander, so they always want me back in the chair, but I'd much rather see someone else give it a shot and learn to do it. Give him some help. Tell him how to operate the controls, what to build, how to give orders, etc. Even if you lose, it's just one game. I'm not asking you to train newbs during a clan tournament.

I try to offer help to new COs, really I do, but they don't always listen.

I have the same problem as Snowman. I love following orders unconditionally, however I rarely recieve them. This is partially due to the cumbersome interface, I think. The commander needs access to things like squad quick-grouping, bookmarked locations and a way to snap to events like "turrets firing" or "need ammo".

Also, a "Med Station" would be useful. That way troops can get their own heath. Currently I respond, "If you want health, type kill in your console." Its a little harsh, though, and damages moral.

I like commander and all, but when no one listens I leave the chair and hide. I have all kinds of structures waiting to be built while my marines are running around the map trying to be Rambo screaming HEALTH! AMMO!

If you want to snap to last message, hit spacebar.

Yes, F3rret is a forum regular, he's a good dude.

I don't know what's worse, a newbie marine who is too inexperienced to follow orders, or a know-it-all marine who is too stubborn to follow orders.

    Here is a tip:

The Commander knows where all of the resourse nozzles are! We can see them on our map!

Sitting beside a resource nozzle refusing to follow orders is not helping. Maybe, just maybe, there is something more important for you to do. You know, like defend our base in Hive 3?

I had a marine do this last night. Our hive base was getting attacked, he was one room over but refused to come help (or move) until i setup a TF and Turrets in his location. My only regret in that game was that he didn't get slaughtered by a critter soon enough. I wish I could have parasited him myself.

    Morons.

The reason for why we sometimes don't receiver orders is majorly because of 2 things.
    1. The commander is new and have trouble finding the person requesting for help.
    2. The commander is a jackass who deserves to be voted out.

I have been in many a server with a new commander. Everytime I try and offer quick suggestions and advice to my commander like a good sargent but...when they don't listen or the team is getting slaughtered or they are just clueless...well, I can only take it so long, least most of them are more then happy to jump out and let me try my hand at it. I've had more then one marine do what I hate...sit a node and want me to drop him like 5 turrents and the factory when i spent 3 minutes telling him and his teammates to move forward to the next node for a reason. One, I get resources faster so then I can afford to build all he wants, 2 I want to deny all the nodes I can to the aliens and I try and move fast...which usually works really well with a good team.

The most important thing I try and impart on new marines..."I'm the commander, just follow my orders man." Sometimes though the new ones need a swift kick at times...get em moving. I communicate more with my team, since I have a mic, then most commanders I have seen...and the still don't listen half the time. Some do...most don't...very annoying.

One thing I do love. I need help over here...Where? Send me reinforments at "Location" I'd like to but your fellow marines don't listen...and you should ask them to come to you...not ask me to move them to you.

I can't stress this enough to people...if a commander sends you somewhere...go there...learn the maps...try and get a feel for what your commander might just be doing, or if that fails...ask. If someone is asking for help, see if your close...AND GET OVER THERE.
