Mouse And Keyboard Problems

<div class="IPBDescription">I think it has to do with the mp3 sounds</div> I've had a very annoying problem since the release of NS.
My mouse, and sometimes my keyboard, becomes unresponsive for half a second and then works for half a second at some locations of the maps.
I think it has something to do with the ambient sounds, because when I disabled the music I didn't have the problems as often.
Both the music and some ambient sounds are mp3, right?

I would be very happy if someone could find a solution for my problem.

Thanks for the best mod ever! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I have this EXACT same problem! It's very annoying, and I have no idea how to fix it. I'll try what he said and disable the ambient sounds, but I doubt it will work. Could you guys stick to wav's next time? Please? :-)

    I have the same problem with the mouse/keyboard, but I actually have in all HL mods (since I installed the windows xp). I have a Microsoft Office Keyboard and Logitech Mouseman Optical. I also have a Logitech Dual Optical but that one seems to be completely unusable with the windows xp, although it works perfectly fine on my other PC running windows 98. Any solution to this problem would be welcomed.

    That's funny Whiskas. Look at your group, YOU'RE BANNED! Exit.

    I'm not sure what the problem is or if it's with XP, but this is a large issue. I doubt it's with XP because my friend who has XP Home Edition installed works fine.

    My stats:
    Compaq Presario 2700US Notebook
    256 MB RAM
    Pentium 3 1GHz
    Mobility Radeon w/ 8MB RAM
    1.5 MBps cable connection
    Windows XP Home Edition

    All my drivers are updated. What could be the problem?

    I'm running NS on:
    945mhz AMD Duron
    512mb pc133 ram
    Asus A7V (I think I have the latest VIA-drivers)
    GeForce2 GTS 32mb with Detonator 30.82
    140gb hdd (I don't think this one matters <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)
    Microsoft intellimouse Explorer 3.0
    Noname keyboard
    Soundblaster 128 PCI
    Win XP prof

    It works with every game/mod except NS.
    That's bad, because it's my favorite mod <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    edit:
    Detonator 30.82

    erm, thats weird, cos since i installed the xp, the cs became almost unplayable, same as dod, i mean ns is the least affected actually, its almost not noticeable, just sometimes............

    Maybe it is XP. I'll have to find a...uhh....ME disc somewhere...not on warez...of course not :-P

    Oh well, XP (makes ward against evil) is bad.

    not sure if this will help, but try putting (-nocdaudio) at the end of your Target on the shortcut you use.

    This is a DirectSound acceleration problem that many players running XP or 2000 have been experiencing since about three HL updates ago. You'll want to disable all DirectSound acceleration feature. This is done under 2000 by going to Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia > Audio tab > Advanced button > Performance tab and turning the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way down to None. The process under XP should be the same, but I don't have it so I couldn't say exactly.

    This may cause slight lag in sounds, but at least you will be able to play without impediment.

    Does anyone know another way to get rid of the problem?

    have you tried disabling all of the hardware sound options in halflife? and downloading the drivers from creative instead of the ones that xp uses?

    I have the same problem, but for me it seems to be caused by sprites and see-through textures. I've tested it and it SEEMS to be consistently caused by see-through textures like grates and sprites like weld spots.

    <u>System Specs</u>
    Processer: 866Mhz Pentium II
    RAM: 256Mb RDRAM
    Graphics: GeForce 2 GTS
    Graphic Settings: D3D at 1024x768
    Sound: SBLive Value
    OS: Windows 98
