Hitscan weapon that did a fairly good amount of damage, high rate of fire, unlimited range, on the most maneuverable alien? Doesn't really fit with the rest of the game imo <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Lerks shouldn't be able to mow down entire squads of marines with spores + spikes.
The NS devs were more looking for aliens to be close range fighters and marines to be long distance fighters, so, spikes didn't more or less fit the alien motif.

I want spores to be removed and replaced with spikes. Spikes should have unlimited range, and do 10 damage a hit, with a possible reduction in damage against HAs.
actually, back in the day, I used to own HA's with spikes. Just sit at a distance from a couple HAs and spike them while they frantically weld each other.
At a decent distance with Regen and a safe spot to fall back to, spikes could take out a lot! Spikes were almost too powerful at times, but lots of fun.

you can't turn cheats on without server admin also as soon as you die you don't have it anymore
it's funner to do this as a skulk

invul then run around xenociding non stop....you never die
What's really annoying is servers that have bite and spikes on the weapon1 slot. Every time you want bite or spikes, you have to get to the correct one, then click the mouse button to select it.
While I liked having spikes, it would make the lerk way too powerful early game. Remember its other use, breaking hive lockdowns while sitting in a vent spiking.

Spores are superior to spikes other than taking out HAs and structures. And it's stupid to be able to take out marine outposts by perching there for a few minutes anyway.

I, and others, have been lobbying for a compromise for a long time. Something like: when you are in-flight use bite, when you are touching a floor or wall use spikes. Or maybe some other key combination or qualifier. Maybe: if you have not moved for X seconds, then switch to spike...
Ever since spikes went away there really hasn't been any alien i've been good at, or enjoy playing, and lack of any long range projectile attack makes aliens really homogenous, IMHO.

I remember before 3.0 we were reading the change log and me and my buddies were saying "OMG! Lerk bite is back! Oh this is gonna rock!" Now we're all like "Man, I wish we still had spikes! Those were... tubular."

I wanted a lerk with bite and spikes. With spikes, spores are not really needed. And my problem with having bite and spikes on the same slot is that you have to click the mouse button, along with pressing the number.

Gas is AMAZINGLY GOOD. It is one of, if not the best hive 1 alien weapon.
Edit: Doesn't anyone else hate how awhile after something is removed, everyone wants it back just like the 'good old days'? I remember when Bite was being re-added, everyone was like "YES JUST LIKE THE GOOD OLD DAYS YIPPEE!!". Now it's like "We want spike, just like the good semi-old days!". Nostalgia is retarded.

Fine, then remove bite instead and keep spores while putting spikes back in or something. I actually don't notice too many early lerks in the servers I play on, but then, those servers are usually 10v10, so the balanace is probably a bit different than 6v6.

I don't understand WHY people think spike is so much better than any other lerk weapon. Bite + the current flight model is a powerful weapon in itself, and spikes would require you to fly in a straight line to get a constant hit on someone or sit still. Wow, a lerk will live real fast doing that. Spores are ridiculously powerful, an area affect weapon at hive1 that removes armor and health at a good rate. Spikes don't even touch that power. Umbra saves more hives than any other single ability combined, spikes can't touch that either. Unless they were super powered, even primal scream beats them. The only way I would consider spikes being useful on a lerk is if the current 4 weapon system was broken and spikes were added as an additional weapon to one of the slots

Spike were usefull vs electrified rt and turret farming, and could actually stand up vs HA's in classic.
