Heres a couple techniques you can use for painting. Definately use water based acrylics for these. I would recommend doing your last two coats of drybrushing AFTER you shade it using conventional blending or a wash. Create a random rock or something out of plaster to try these out so you can see how they work and how effective they can be.
Drybrushing- Get a big brush, put it into the paint then wipe most of it off on a paper towel. Lightly brush it onto your model. You can layer or fade very easily with this, as well as highlighting. In smaller scale I may use two colors of drybrushing, you may want more like 6 since your case is so large...
Washes- Take a disposable cup, pour a small amount of paint in it (a couple mm), then add water and stir till you get something colored but is slightly thicker than water. This technique you use to add shadows and shade crevaces. Simply take a brush and coat your model. Since its so thin it will slide down into the cracks and create a lot of dark shading with minimal work. You can use different shades of wash with each being a little lighter shade and thicker as the last to shade the recessed areas quickly and easily.
which side looks better, the one on the left has not been touched up with yellow, the one on the right has.... <img src='http://www4.ncsu.edu/~wlknier/pics/fog/case31.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> <img src='http://www4.ncsu.edu/~wlknier/pics/fog/case32.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> don't mind that blotch of green/blue/yellow...i ran out of the green paint that I want to use and tried some other green and well...it won't work...gonna have to get some more by thursday <img src='http://www4.ncsu.edu/~wlknier/pics/fog/case33.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> <img src='http://www4.ncsu.edu/~wlknier/pics/fog/case34.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> <img src='http://www4.ncsu.edu/~wlknier/pics/fog/case35.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' /> <img src='http://www4.ncsu.edu/~wlknier/pics/fog/case36.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

fade eye push button scrapped....wouldn't go with the theme...
I would add more orange as previously suggested to the infestation. Also, the surface could use more panels with light. NS with blinking, glowing, computer panels seems natural to me. And finally, abit more grey-color on the res node.
Oh btw, I just looked at them a bit more and I think it needs a tad more orange, otherwise its drooltastic <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Do you think its logically a good idea of creating a smoking PC?
"You know your PC is burning?"
"shut up!"
"calm down, i prevented further damage with this fire extinguisher"
"you WHAT?"

we need more pics of case.
Yeah, you get the idea. Might want to get HLMV and look at the skins of the aliens and structures for a better idea on detailing the infestation..
Nice work, make sure you add some orange and red as well as green and yellow to the infestation.
