Help With Steam

Could really do with some Steam help.
Recently I suffered a catastrophic hard drive glitch, which resulted in my having to re-install everything. I just re-installed Steam, and I can't seem to get it to acknowledge my copy of Half-Life.
I tried installing Steam and logging into my account without my retail HL installed. Then I tried it with my retail HL installed. I've tried the "Register a product I already own" button (tells me it's already registered). I can't think of anything else to do. I've searched the Support section and forums over at www.steampowered.com, all to no avail.

Any help someone could give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm really looking forward to playing NS again after the few weeks my computer's been dead.

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick help there.
I found the problem. I registered with Steam back at the very start when it didn't exactly work brilliantly. As such, two of my e-mail addresses are valid accounts - even though only one of them has all my stuff on. I was using the wrong account (a typo in the second's e-mail address caused me to think I only had one account).
Seems like all my registered gear's now back on my list. Just got to re-download it all.

Again, thanks for the quick response, even though the problem was just due to my own rather tired reasoning.

    Cheers

Glad to hear it all worked out. I fear what would happen to me if I lost steam and suddenly it didn't acknowledge all the products I own.

BTW, I would be wary of anything Thansal says, after all, he is a stimulant addict.
