Need Help With Getting Ns

Ok I have NEVER used steam, nor have half life, nor counter strike, and obviously not NS. Hadn't ever considered playing HL or CS because frankly many CS people annoyed me and gave me a bad stereotype of the average gamer. Then one of my friends who plays CS showed me NS and well I love it. Now I want to play the game, and I am going crazy trying to get it installed.

Current downloaded Files:

Half life steam installer from Fileshack.com (didn't install half life only steam...)
NS 3.0 beta5 installer
Downloading steaminstall_CS.exe from fileshack at the moment.

I don't know if halflife requires CS to work, all I know is that NS needs half life and steam to work. However when I installed an "illegitamate" copy of half life
(deflected about 20,000 viruses) it still didn't show on steam.

Also, in a post before I read that I need to install this on my other drive, the one w/o windows, dunno if this is true.

Anyways can someone please give me a set of step by step instructions to get NS from having no files installed.

    umm ok i now know that i had to install codename gordon. However, now that NS shows in 3rd party games it says i must purchase it. However i was under the impression that NS was free. Do I have to purchase it?

    Do I have to purchase HL? I didn't all i did was run that codename gordon crap and used the training there. Then I installed NS, it shows but won't allow me to play.

    you have to have purchased half life, or hl2 to be able to play the mods for it. you also have to have half life downloaded, or installed to be able to play NS.

    Like they said, you have to have a copy of HL with a good cd-key to play it. If you don't have one you can buy one for less than $20. Then just go to play games --> browse games --> register a product i already own. You probably want to delete NS and reinstall it, because if you don't have half life then you probably installed it to the wrong folder.

    Try installing NS into your Quake 3 Arena directory - that worked for me....
