There are many large areas, which would be tough for skulks.
Try to break them up with archtecture and random crates etc

This looks like your first map, and I must say it's an impressive effort for a first map. I suggest you work on lighting more however, Natural Selection is a lot darker and moodier than standard Half-Life, and lighting must reflect that. This is a lot better than most new mappers we get can come up with.

Better lighting would improve this area a LOT, and then we can focus on the detail work

Also, I ask you to consider that all the offical NS maps have little "rooms" you enter to join teams/spectate. Perhaps this would be a good thing to try out.

Definitely not bad, though.

Its just really boxy. You need more details inside the map itself, and not have it just so that its only walls, a floor, and a ceiling. You gotta have humps in the floor, protrusions from the wall or ceiling, special lighting system (your lighting needs real work) etc.

Thursday will come in here and put you down. Dont worry about him.

It's hard to tell... Are you using texture lighting in the map?

If you aren't then I highly suggest you do.

And if you are... Then ignore this post =P

Yeah.. I'd have to agree, but... it is the readyroom don't forget. Add some more details on the ceiling, etc.

And maybe make the small block that looks like it's a power cord or something into a round brush.. Sorry for not being very technical about that explination because I just woke up

Anyways yes custom wad files are nice touch for a first map. Heck most experience mappers don't even use custom textures. gj.

Yes Yes Yes.... I know what all you guys saying. It's not like a typical NS map. Since this is my first map, this is a siege map. So it doesnt has that original NS theme with dark lights, scary wide hallways and stuff like that. (Which siege map does?). I just want to experiment with a lot of tools and get some experience with Hammer. I do understand that the ready room isn't detailed like usual NS maps. Since this is going to be a map, I dont think it has to be. It's just a fun map where you run around shooting whaterver that moves untill the siege door opens. I got this idea in the first place because 95% of the time I play NS, I play those custom siege maps.

What I will do is take out some of the lights and use texture lighting. I made the marine start more detailed, but for the most part I'll keep it simple as usual siege maps.

Good job for your first map!

Now, is this your first EVER map, or first map into the wild? I noticed you saw my post on my first map I'm putting out in the wild (ns_incubus) even tho that post wasn't supposed to be there (wasn't ready yet posted instead of previews ) but you can see some things.

Given, very few readyrooms have intense stuff, but things such as pipes, light fixtures, ect will greatly help that map. Also, try breaking up the walls a bit (trust me, it's NOT easy to do that till ya learn how... and I'm still trying to figure that one out XD) look at co_teabag, ns_hera, ns_siege007 (the best siege map EVER IMHO) for some good tips

I know what you saying. And I also know that most people wont agree with me in the following idea.
I like siege 007 and also the best looking one is osmsiege (dont know if I spelled this right).
The idea is, if you can look at the source of the map, you can learn a lot about how they put blocks together, group them, cut them and stuff to make them look a certain way. But of course you never get to see the source. Learning this by yourself takes a long time and lot of experiences with hammer. This is why most new mappers that get in to NS mapping just go with siege maps. (how many custom siege maps are there compaired to normal ns or co maps? 1:1000 ratio?)

BAAAAAAAAAAaaaad stance nukem... do a search for ns Nexus to see why...

decompiling = best way to get a bad rep... harsh, I know, but it happens.

Best thing to do is to run a map in a server you create, and just run around and take pictures
