Athlon 64 3000 939 Pin
<div class="IPBDescription">For all you Overclockers</div> AMD recently released a new low end line of 939 pin, 90 nm processors. The bottom is the 3000 +, clocked at 1.8 ghz. Now, beyond being futureproof (939 pin CPU's have a 2 year piece of AMD's pie) and supporting Dual Channel memory, they are also said to be amazing overclockers. We're talking people are clocking these things to 2.45 ghz <i>on air</i>. AIR!!!! Oh yeah, and they're not changing the voltage either.
The unfortunate thing is that they're around $50 more than the older line of Athlon 64 3000's, and the motherboards are running more as well.
For me as a potential consumer of Athlon 64's, I can't help but wonder if the OCing potential is more than worth purchasing one of these in the next few months, instead of buying an Athlon 64 3000 754 pin processor clocked at a steady, reliable 2.0 ghz.
Also, if I was going to get one of these, I was thinking it might be best to wait until the PCI-Express boards start coming out. I mean, if I'm going to go the futureproof way, might as well get a board that handles the newest tech.
Of course, then my computer budget just shot up like crazy. Stupid amazing Sound Cards by M-Audio.

I ususaly only overclock my system when I <b>need</b> to <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->, Right now I can run CS:S @ 1024x768 full settings and it runs at ~60fps. Not too bad <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I think, looking back, I should have got a 939 cpu, but hey I got my 3000+ for ?60 so I can't really complain.
