Hlbsp Crash

<div class="IPBDescription">this one's different</div> I know there was just a post about crashing HLBSP, and I was hoping mine was the same error, but I can't figure this out. HLBSP seems to crash and I get the "report to Bill gates" thing too, and then HLVIS continues on as normal, but Rad doesn't seem to work either. I'm not sure whats wrong, but I'm posting my compile log. If anyone has any insights into this, I'd really appreciate the help. Hopefully it's just something simply that i've missed I don't know.

Anyway here's the log file

I know there is a lot of Leaf portals saw in to leaf errors, but I've been getting those for a while, and I was going to wait until I'm completely done to fix those because evertime you fix one, ten more pop up as soon as you add anything to your map.

    well you could at least fix:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Warning: Illegal Brush (edge without opposite face): Entity 0, Brush 5821<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    that could well be the cause of the many vis errors.

    if it doesn't search google for a discription of "Leaf portals saw into leaf" and try and correct that problem, as although it should crash bsp or rad its not a good thing to have that many.

    I know, but take into account I was also doing a fast vis. Either way those don't matter I've had them before, and no crash, but now It crashes. BSP is the issue not VIS I just noticed since BSP crashed, it didn't post to the log file. BSP seemed to go fine until the end, then it crashed and vis started up.

    Also rad didn't post either, but Rad didn't have a crash message like BSP did.

    boy, you re not even starting hlbsp, even if it crashes, your compiler should write the startup line into the log
  • GaidinTSGaidinTS Join Date: 2003-08-10 Member: 19319Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
    I know I'm starting it up. I've sat and watch it run, and it posts it to the dos prompt, but not to the log file. If I wasn't running it, then why would I get an error saying HLBSP crashed if I never started it?

    HLRAD is crashing now too. I don't know what else to do, so I'm just going through my map systematically deleting things trying to find whats causing the crash.

    I'm fully aware that they shouldn't cause a crash, but it appears they are all over you map and any errors show in a compile should be checked and if possible fixed, and those errors are very fixable I suggest that you fix them.

    On-topic, try getting an older version of the compile tools (one of xp-cagey's) and see if that helps.

    maybe you have some kind of strange write protect on the files of a previous compile (i guess you have SP2 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->) you coud try to delet all file with you mapname except of the rmf or recompile in another directory (copy the rmf/map to another directory and compile there)

    I've got this problem too. I've made some small changes on ns_hulk and hlbsp started to crash :/
  • the_bERtthe_bERt Join Date: 2004-06-21 Member: 29436Members
    well, every crash has a different reason, my map crashes too in bsp when i got a leak... you should really check every warning you get and post it..., also make sure to "check for problems" in hammer
