The problem I see with this going retail is that CS was a mass-market game and while ns is much higher quality and all that its topic does no matter how much you wish it didn't resign it to a slightly smaller crowd. A mod needs to hit critical mass before a publish will sink cash into it and I'm not sure if a sci-fi mod no matter how good can hit the mass their looking for.
There are at any given time 46,000 people playing cs, in comparison there are only about 14,000 people playing TFC and about 4,000 playing dod and all the rest are below 1k. So the question is not how awesome will ns be but will it appeal to a large enough user base to break the 14k mark. B/c only tfc and cs have been sold. (Yes hl was repackaged with tfc as tfc).
I think NS would appeal to more ppl if it had outdoor envirements(no not huge open planes but rather something like a North American Forest or a South American Jungle) and prehaps a gore on\off option off by default. You need to think about peoples demands besides what you want and yet maintaing the quality of the series and not messing it up like Eidos did with Fighting Force and maybe Tomb Raider?
Personally I would love to see if NS made it to shelves. It is a great game ESPECIALLY considering its only at 1.01 Just think how good it will be at 1.03 or 1.05. This will be a great game but lets just all hope ppl can adapt too it since it is a completly new gaming concept seeing how it is a mix of strategy and FPS. A lot of people dont like to try a new game thats different and confusing at first. When i first played NS I was like what in the hell is this but after i got use to it I realized how good of game it really was. Also Lt. I do agree with you about the gore and outdore enviroments would be nice but just wait and see im sure they are adding things to make it a more enjoyable and universal game. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::siege::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/siege.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='siege.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo-->
I hope that NS doesn't sell out. Sure they get X amount of money, but then yet. You wont FULLY own the mod anymore. If you take it to another engine, you'll probably be sued. So it would probably be better not to be bought so if in the future you wanna change engines....You can.

Imagine this game on UT2k3!
Wooo
lol
It will still be around, and people will prolly still play it, but valve wont want to buy it and sell it like CS.
By the time this game is ready to go retail, valve will be pushing to promote their new engine.
do you relize how many people play CS+dod+TFC+NS+ all the others?
