A bottle will last a few days or so, at least. And if we get one a morning, then theres always unopened bottles at the back of the fridge.

Having said that, we don't get one a morning any more, coz we never used to drink it all and then it WOULD go off before we even opened the bottles at the back  <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Back when all my family lived under one roof, we also went through milk far faster than you seem to give anyone credit for. We bought 4 gallon jugs a week. Think on that a slight bit, eh?

Sounds impressive. What the heck is a gallon when it's at home, btw? Certain number of pints or something?

    Silly measurements.

In finland we don't have hobos, since the winter filters them,
and only leaves fresh, clean, blonde and blue eyed people!

"Lowtech"? "Lowtech" is having to go out to go shopping. (:

I've never seen milkmen in London, mind. Presumably, they can get enough blood in The City by picking off the lost, the lonely, the downtrodden and the damned. I have to nip out to a shop to get supplies of mammary fluids and related goods here.

I get three pints every morning at about 5AM. Milkmen ROCK!

However, I always asume someone is trying to break into the house......the low humming of the milk-float puts my mind at rest! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Such a nice noise when you're half asleep.

Sadly, in this day and age, the primary function of milkmen has shifted from thier regular duties of delivering packages of milky goodness in the moring hours to banging up hot moms.
  • SnidelySnidely Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13098Members
That's always been their function. Hence the saying, "Your mother's run off with the milkman." It's used every time a Dad doesn't know where Mum is.

in the UK dont you guys radiate ur milk? i heard that somewhere, so that it doesnt go bad, also, dont you radiate ur apples n such too.

us Americans tend to throw a tizzy when we hear radiate and dont really understand what it means, so we only had radiated milk for about 6 months before it was banned or forceably taken off the shelfs or somehthing.

I know we do something like that on strawberries to keep them nice and ripe, but I never heard of doing that on milk. <i>*Shrug*</i>

My mom gets all of her milk delivered directly to her from a certified organic dairy farmer. She has to buy it in bulk and keep it in a freezer in the garage, but we save money *and* get fresher, tastier milk. Of course, this is in Iowa, so it's not difficult for a farmer to drive into town and do this sort of thing. I doubt anyone would want to deliver to NYC.

Also, in the 70's / 80's, milkmen used to give customers a free bottle of "Iron Bru".. a nice orange coloured drink which had a sort of caramel taste.

They don't now.. but you can pick the stuff up in the shops for a very cheap price.

I only found Irn Bru in Scotland, and a very similar drink in Taiwan. It's an amazing drink indeed.

So <i>that's</i> what Captain Birdseye does in his spare time, when he's not on his island with other people's children.
