Personally, well, I can't blame people for wanting to move to canada. As far as alot of us are concerned you just reelected the worst president ever (pretty damn close anyway). We are frustrated because after all he has done people still vote for him. We are so afraid of what this guy will do to our country that we are willing to escape him by imegrating to annother country. I even thought about it myself...
But I realized that running away isn't the answer. If you really love your country, then you have a duty to stick around and try to fix it. The best way I see for us to do that right now is to focus on finding worthy candidates for 2008. Unfortunatly the most worthy candidates tend to run third-party, so we're just goint to have to make do with what we have for democrats. I've seen good suggestions (feingold-clinton, obama-feingold, clinton-obama... feingold-mccain?) but those probably aren't all that realistic. If things continue on their path however, and the only choice left is armed revolution, then I won't blame anyone for running away, but don't expect us to let you back in after we win.

Like someone else said, when you take a big bite out of a **** sandwich, usually you want to try the next sandwich and hope it'll taste better. I guess people are so concerned about their candidate not banning abortion and keeping all those icky homosexuals from entering civil union that they'd rather eat their sandwich and love it.

"When we looked at the first day after the election, Nov. 3, our Web site hit a new high, almost double the previous record high," immigration ministry spokeswoman Maria Iadinardi said on Friday.
On an average day some 20,000 people in the United States log onto the Web site, www.cic.gc.ca -- a figure which rocketed to 115,016 on Wednesday. The number of U.S. visits settled down to 65,803 on Thursday, still well above the norm.

/me points at almost 50% tax rates.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> 50% tax? Wow... Either I get lower taxes than the rest of the population, or you might want to check your facts. Canada != socialist. Communism is socialism (albeit a radical form). We have *gasp* a publicly funded health care system. That, and I happen to know that the tax rate is significantly less than 50%. For people who earn less than about $40k CDN a year, they're less than 25%. For people who earn over $110k CDN, they rise to about 40% (as is logical, if not fair). Your average person pays about 33%. However, if you add up the cost of health insurance in the US with the tax rate, and add in all other publicly owned services, you'll probably find that they're very similar totals. I fail to see why so many Americans seem to be so terrified of the government providing a vital service. Personally I'd prefer the government managing my health care than some private corporation which only gives a crap about money. And another reason we don't need massively huge 50% tax rates to pay for the health care system: we don't have to spend $410 billion per year on defense. We spend about 1/100 that. Mind you our army is the laughing stock of the western world, and West Edmonton Mall has a larger and more powerful submarine force than the Canadian Navy, but still... we haven't fought a war in 50 years (whereas the US has been in 3 major ones, being Vietnam, Gulf War I and Gulf War II). You'll note that the US started all of these for all intents and purposes. Canada has never started a war (the only reason we fought in WW1 and WW2 was because of the Brits and the whole being-a-colony thing).
Basically, Canada is not a socialist country, we do not have 50% tax rates, and we can afford not to because we don't go around starting wars because we think we have a divine right to police the planet.

Hmm, I drove from Denver to Seattle w/o having to pay a toll once, how much do YOU know about the US? Sure, there are a few toll roads once in a while, but they are optional for people who are in a hurry and don't want to be bothered with traffic.
I do envy Canadas halthcare system though, but implementing such a system into the US would not be easy and potentially cost hundreds or thousands of jobs.
Oh, I know a guy who once had a pet beaver. He lived in a town up in the mountains called Craig (I live in Colorado) and found it injured on the side of the road, raised it and kept it till it died after about 8 years. He wasn't a lumberjack though, he ownes a gas station.
Actually, the election isn't truely over yet. They're still counting votes to to make sure everything is right (there are some odd glitches in Ohio) before the electoral colleges finally and truely vote. By December, we will truely know. But for right now, Kerry may still be in the race.
As for the immigrating to Canada thing, I have always wanted to go to Canada to live. I believe the people up there are much more open minded, less bigoted and more polite than here. Not to mention that they have a much nicer landscape, and I could probably find a job that isn't MINIMUM WAGE. Bush getting elected is just another incentive to me.
And as I have said before, in there is such a large amount of people that are seriously disturbed by this premature election turn out, then there is something truely and desperatly wrong that some might not see.

I'll prolly get a bashing for it, but this is starting to sound more and more like the only option that's going to turn this **** situation around.
Call me a twit if you want, but I don't believe that (the quoted reason for losing) for a second - but still get a little chuckle out of that image. It's not worth taking seriously, and I doubt the person who created it took it very seriously, either. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

Talk like this makes me start to believe in John Titor. So quit it already. You can wait 4 damn years and try for another election. The Bush problem will have solved itself then, via Constitutional law stating that he can't have more than 2 terms. Maybe then we will have some real candidates.
And Obama is cool and all, but down south he has yet to do much speaking, we don't know how popular he will be.

50% tax?

We may have "high" taxes compared to the US, but does the US goverenment fund any public programs.
If there was still such a thing as real diplomacy, the world would have no use for men like me.
And just for the record, Bush isn't the worst president, (Ulysses S.) Grant is.
**EDIT** Clarification
Dude, he conceded. That was the end.
The canadian government sells out road contracts too, there is just always another way around them, which is probably true for the state too. If you ever drive the kokahola, expect to pay a few bucks for them to let you go.
