Keyboard And Mouse Not Responding

Hi all, i've been playing NS since 2.0 or so, anyway, the problem i am having at the moment, is when i go into a server, the keyboard and mouse do not seem to work. the game has not locked up as i can still see whats going on, and ppl can kill me. the only keys that seem to work are tab (scoreboard) and rightclick menu. other than that, i cannot move or look around. if i try to goto the consol and return to readyroom or such, it sometimes causes ns to freeze, if i am quick however i can usually disconnect from the server and quit.

os: win xp service pack 2
running:
a7v8x-x mobo
athlon 2700+ cpu
wd cavier 120 GB hdd
msi geforce 4 ti 4200 vid card, with 8x agp and 128 mb ram
sound blaster audigy
lg 52x24x52 cd-rw
pioneer 16x dvd-rom

the only thing i have changed recently was installed Bry's 1.04 installer, although i have tried running the switch.bat file multiple times, making sure i am in "latest" mode. i am unsure as to what the problem is, as i was playing earlier today with no problem. the last thing i played was a custom co_ map, assult_apc i think, don't remember the exact name. anyway, anyone have a clue what is going on??

    Are you sure mouselook is on?
    Try pressing use defaults in the keyboard menu.

    if mouselook was disabled, i should still have the use of the keyboard, to move around, etc. however that does not seem to be the case, though i will check to make sure anyway.

    [edit] just checked mouselook, and used default keyboard config, still no luck. i can use chat, teamchat, and tab, but i cannot move around, go forward, back, left or right, and i cannot look around, or fire. it also seems if i stay ingame for several seconds, it freezes. any ideas?

    Try uninstalling and reinstalling NS.
    If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall Steam.

    I had (sometimes still have) this problem.
    If I alt-tabbed and went back in ns, I could move again.

    Try to turn off all background programs and disable num lock (sounds strange, but try it).
