The phase gate buffet occurs when at least 2, usually 3 alien lifeforms are munching on your phase gate. WHen your marines start phasing through they all get eaten, one by one. The result is a total massacre. It happens all the time when marines are losing a seige.
The best way to avoid this is to med spam right on top of the phase gate. The main idea is to disorient the aliens so they'll stop biting the phase gate and go for marines that have eluded the deadly trap. It works well and can save you some games.

If there are only 2 aliens your team has a chance if they all pile in at nearly the same time. If it's 3 aliens don't attempt it.
If your team is wearing heavy armor it isn't as much of a problem. They can survive long enough for more teammates to get in.

If all of you guys are dead and there's even 4 skulks munching on the PG, you gotta tell all your marines to phase. If they do so, a few will die, undoubtedly, but it'll buy enough time for the rest of them to kill the skulks and shotty the hive down.
I speak from much experience.
Any more than 4, though, they'll just own.

This is the solution.
Med spam just creates the Out->Bite->Knockback->Med->Out->Bite->Knoc... circle.
If another marine comes through as the first marine is bouncing off the skulk bite back onto the pg...
HA phase should be staggered anyway; it's too much res too loose. With the first player bouncing all over the place for a few seconds until he comes to bare then it's even more essential.
Hand nades should be started as soon as the armoury is upgraded really. Not before, as you need the res, and you are unlikely to have any siege spots up. You could always quickly use a field armoury for it anyway.

What we have there is absolutely most easy way to loose especially if the pg is somewhere out of combat.
I fyou have 3 aliens on pg just sell it and push somewhere else while aliens are happy about pg down somewhere else.
The flip of this of course is to send 1 guy through, let him die, send another through, let him die, and while that was happening you're sending every other man to somewhere else on the map to ruthlessly exploit the aliens fascination with your PG.

You always phase through the gates in the same order. They only have to camp the first on, and nobody will pop out the second.
Plus it's really, really bad to have it take twice as long to phase anywhere + double the chances of telefragging a buddy (but not double for killing the onos).

Nades > PG camping.
If it gets to the point where all your defensive setup is destroyed, then grenades are an excellent solution to saving the phase gate. Nades really only work against non-fade/non-onos lifeforms. Otherwise you could either send HA through there, spam meds on top of the phase, or send a GLer through to give the feasters a blast.

You could even use a gl it's got more nades but that method would be more expensive.
