<div class="IPBDescription">...Help needed.</div> I know, I know... This game is old (1997 i think), but i missed out to play ANY FF game so I thought "give it a try".
Most FF fans i asked told me FF7 was the best one, so I picked this (I'm playing the PC version btw).
Now I'm at the point where Sephiroth lacks some beating, the final fight.
The game is great, meh graphics but amazing story.
So, now i need your help. Where is the best place to level my characters and materia?
I heard about some place where some certain mobs give about 500ap for materia, i think it was some kind of giant purple sea worm, and about some cave mobs.
I don't know any details and I don't trust those cheat sites, they all write the same.
Btw Cloud is lvl 54, Tifa 54 and Yuffie 53.
How long would it take to level them to 90-90?

it also has the best non-boss AP giveouts there is AFAIK
and I'm not sure but I thought seph was kinda a pushover, at least if you have 9999 hp on all/most of your chars... but yeah, somewhere in the final dungeon is a room with monsters that give crazy xp and ap...
it's the only room with the critters, and I think it looks kinda crystal-y, you should know it when you see it...
use your weapons that double/triple/whatever AP to get the most bang for your buck...
Otherwise EXP.....go in the submarine and find the sunken Gelnika. Fight the monsters there. Great EXP. Use morph on them too, and you can get a load of different source items (you know, stat increasing ones)

I think you're prolly right =P I just remembered it looked different from most of the rest of the northern crater...
And if your looking for the big fights, try beating all the Weapons. I'm pretty sure if you beat Ultimate Weapon, you get Clouds Ultima sword (which is the win).
Tho it was along time ago when I last played, so I may be wrong.

Yes but you can also get Apocalypse after the frog forest which is unlocked after you beat him, which gives triple growth.

Oh yeah, i already got the Ultima Weapon for Cloud, there are 2 weapons i can't beat yet, the Ruby Weapon at the Gold Saucer and the Emerald Weapon under water. Those guys are SICK, they can kill me in 1-2 hits.

You get Yuffie's in the Sunken Gelnika.
Ruby weapon, haha a toughie. I beat it using some fancy materia combination that let me get loads of hits in everytime he attacked me. Can't remember the combo now tho. Something to do with Counter....and um...something else lol.
Emereld weapon however, I beat fair and square in a straight fight <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I actually cheered and danced around my room after winning ^^

i found a **nearly** unbeatable strat for any fight.
required materia:
Knights of the Round
Pheonix
MP Turbo
MP Absorb
Final Attack
Master Summon
W-Summon
materia pairs:
Final attack = pheonix
KotR = MP turbo
Master Summon = MP Absorb
W-Summon
HOW IT WORKS:
summon KotR twice each round, dealing max damage (from MP turbo)
if you die, you cast Pheonix, reviving yourself AND damaging monsters
you dont have to worry about limits on summoning, thanks to the Master Summon
EVERY summoning spell you cast gives you MP back (assuming damage is dealt)
WEAKNESSES:
anything that can drain all of your mana very quickly (certain attacks by emerald weapon)

It shows up in Midgar before you fight boss-beginning-with-H-so-as-not-to-spoilerise, but barret has to be IN your party at the time.
Also note that Tifa's final weapon varies in power depending on her limit level; i.e, it does almost no damage on an empty limit bar, about the same as normal on 1/3 full, and excessive damage above that. If you give her the Deathblow materia you can keep whacking with a full limit bar for about 10k hp a hit <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I was going to write my own method, but it just got confusing, so here.

As for final attack, you get that from the battle arena in golden saucer. Same with W-Summon (I believe) Master summon, you need to master ever single summon materia, then talk to the red huge materia. That, or beat Emerald Weapon and give the earth harp to the guy in kalm (same guy you get underwater materia from). He'll give you master materia.

im assuming you feed your chocobos to max stats, and ALWAYS MAKE SURE ALL INVOLVED CHOCOBOS ARE AT HIGHEST RACING BRACKET POSSIBLE (A or above)
Chocobo colors:
regular (yellow)
passes mountains (green)
passes shallow water (blue)
passes mountains & shallow water (black)
global access (gold)
regular chocobos required (but not all at once):
1 "good" chocobo
1 "great" chocobo
(make sure they are of opposite genders)
they can be found on the island with the village that gets destroyed by the lifestream
1 "wonderful" chocobo (gender depends)
found in the snowy region
nuts:
3 carob nuts (found on those red dino things around bone village)
1 zieo nut (on goblin island (island with some forest somewhere north of the Chocobo Sage IIRC))
MATING:
get your good and great chocobos (of opposite gender)
save
mate your chocobos together with a carob nut.
if you dont get a blue or green chocobo, load and try again.
once you get the special chocobo check if your first 2 chocobos are ready to mate again
if they are, save
breed them again, with a carob nut. this time you want a chocobo of the other special color, and the opposite gender.
once you achieve this (probably with much loading and swearing), save, then breed the green and blue chocobos with a carob nut
once you get the black chocobo, go find a wonderful chocobo with the opposite gender as your black chocobo.
save
breed it with blacky, using the xieo nut
if it works, GOLDEN CHOCOBO!

final attack:
once you reach a certain point (level or just entering southern crater, not sure which), you get access to a special "challenge" battle in the Battle arena. win, and you get Final Attack (and some other items)
W-Summon
lots of battle points (won through regular battles in the battle arena)
Master Summon:
2 methods
1) beat Emerald weapon and take the item he gives you to some guy in Kalm
2) master EVERY summon materia at least once, then go "talk" to the red huge materia in Cosmo Canyon (assuming you got that one, i know there was a few you could miss)

Beating weapon with some uber lvl chars will take less then leveling all my materia... my NEO Bahemut is not even 2!!
after I beat ff7, I went back with ub3r h4x on (like new game+ mode!) and everyone had about 8000 health or so, and I got schooled by emerald weapon even with kotr. try getting lucky 7s.
Get Final Attack, KotR, Pheonix, and 3 Mime Command materias, and master them all (Crater FTW!)
Stick em on whoever, since you'll need a buttload of materia to equip (and one of Emmy's attacks is based on how much materia you have equipped)
Just be sure you do this kind of setup for Phoenix or you'll be screwed over big time.
(Final Attack)=(Pheonix)
Start off by casting KotR. If it isn't that character's turn yet, wait till your character with KotR comes on. Cast KotR on Emmy, and Mime away! You won't be using up any MP at all by miming (yay!)
When you get killed with Emmy's Aire Tam because of all that materia you're carrying to battle, Pheonix should kick in. Celebrate that you aren't dead, and start the KotR mass spammage again. Rinse, repeat. And you'll beat Emmy.
To add insult to Emmy, get one of your characters to Lucky 7 XD
Honestly, it REALLY helps with dealing with Emmy. You are able to do more damage than KotR with Lucky 7 IIRC.
I love FF7 so much so i tried to beat a record.
Took me 15 hours to finish whole FF7.
Anyways.. Ruby/Emerald isnt hard at all if you use the magic/summons right.
Emerald:
You must have Knights of the Round, Slash all, 4x-cut, Phoenix, Final attack, Enemy Skill with Big Guard and Mime.
Big Guard is a very useful enemy skill, it makes haste, Barrier and MBarrier on all in your party. That means you take less damage and you are much faster then normal. To get Big Guard, you must <b>Manipulate</b> BeachPug near Costa del Sol beach.

First of all, you cut his many eyes so he cant use them of some minutes, and then you bash him with Cloads Omnislash, if you dont have it, go to battlesquare in golden saurcer. There after, cast KOTR and get mime on that. KOTR <b>must</b> be master, that means the materia must be max-lvl to use it many times. And when a materia get to master, you will get another same materia but it is lvl 1. That will cover all to kill him. You will get Master Summon, Master Magic, and Master Command. Those 3 is a must to kill Ruby.
Ruby:
Make sure you have Hades + W-Summon + Mime (at least 2 ) + KOTR.
Hades make ruby freeze for some minutes and just do w-summon + kotr and mime on that. You must be at least lvl 80. And oh! I almost forgot, you must kill 2 in your party and then enter ruby. Because he will take his claws and put them in the ground. And not use the damn whirlsand thing. When he done that, use Life or phoenix down to your dead in your party. 3 Ribbon is a must in your party, you can morph Tonberry in the cave to get one. Then you must have Final attack linked with Phoenix, Final attack materia must be at least lvl 3. Because if you die, you cast Phoenix and all in your party relive. That is kinda enough to kill ruby easly. At least i did. About 13 KOTR rounds to kill ruby.
