Ns Crashing

Has something to do with sound...
(OFFTOPIC: I just wrote long and well done post about this subject and then I opened these forums again hoping for another window and lost it, so now I am going to be swift and do much typos.)

Okay to the problem. My NS keeps shutting down my computer on various situations: Entering game/quiting/entering command chair/just too often when not doing anything of above. I think the crashing situations depend on sound drivers which I use (tried many of em) with some drivers it's ALWAYS when quiting and every now and then when playing. And with some drivers it won't last for 1minute before crash. I've turned of XP's boot on error from system recovery page and still I dont get BSOD. If I disable my sound card, ns won't crash at all and I have no problems with any other HL mod like CS.

Things I have tried:

-different sound card drivers (all of them for some cards)
-different sound cards (creative 4.1/muse xl/ac97)
-different graphic card drivers(old/new)
-different combinations of above
-newest mobo chipset drivers/bios
-reinstall ns/steam/windows (several times)
-different sound configs (eax on/off)
-things I don't remember to write here.

I have noticed that many have problems with sound drivers with NS (neta5?), but haven't seen any solution for my and prolly many others problem. So if anyone can think of anything I haven't tried out yet, which is basically everything , please tell. Or if anyone has similard graphics card/sound card I would appreciate if u could post your driver information here, so I could try it out. Thanks

My system specs:
------------------------
athlon XP2000+ @ 1666Mhz
Win XP sp1
Geforce 2 Titanium
257mb ram
creative 4.1 sb
epox 8kha+

Sounds like you have tried bascially everything. Try reinstalling NS first. You might of gotten a bad install or it didn't install properly. And if you think it might be your sound card, go ask a friend if you can try his so you have a completely different one (so you change more than just the drivers). And since you said it only happens in NS, it could very well be that you are missing a file or something.

Thanks for the reply, but as I said I have tried with 3 different sound cards allready and I have tried to install just ns again using different install files.

Ahh, overlooked some of the things. Hmm, if all else fails try a reinstall of Windows? Just back up your files and such. Make sure NS is one of the first things you install (so the OS will be very freshly installed). It really sounds like there is no alternative from what you said. But before you try reinstalling Windows check these: You could always try searching Google (I doubt you'll find anything though). Also, try a completely different graphics card (looks like you only tried different drivers). Something might be eating up your resources and causing the crash (since you can start the game sometimes). Also if you have a system restore point, try installing from there. That is really all I can think of.

Uhm yes you really overlooked some of the things, I have allready tried installing windows again (2 times) and I have tried to google some similar problems with soundcards, but no success. Atm I am installing 4th sound card: SBlive! 5.1, this atleast works with my friends comp. I am also going to try same graphic card drivers he uses and ofcourse same sound drivers. He has gf4ti and I had my gf2ti. I wish me luck!
