<div class="IPBDescription">Or is it?</div> Hmmm. One day i decided to plug in the microphone and talk with it over NS games. Right. Plugged in, set the input volume, test, works fine.
I start the game, join a server and start talking. The little speaker is shown when i'm holding the voice comm key. "Hi all, how's it going..." "Anybody hears me?" "Helloooo?"
Nothing. It seems that no one actually hears me. Help?
PS:Yes, i have the "enable voice comm in this mod" enabled.

Loopback means you hear your own voice (similarly) to how others may hear it, and enable and modenable turn on voice for the half life engine and for that particular mod, respectively. I'm pretty sure you have both of those enabled if you see the speaker, though. Loopback might help give you an idea of how it's sounding.
Here's a quote from my config file (I spent too many hours of my life commenting all the cvars, heh.) I can't promise it'll work for you, and you'd better remember what your current settings are before changing. That said...
<!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->voice_modenable 1 // Mod specific enabling.
voice_enable 1 // Enables voice.
voice_loopback 1 // Allows you to hear your own words.
voice_scale 3 // VOICE ONLY volume multiplier in game.
voice_overdrive 1 // Lowers other sound when someone speaks. Above one lowers volume, under one raises.
voice_overdrivefadetime 0 // Time during which overdrive settings fade in and out.
voice_maxgain 1.5 // Maximum gain to apply. Gain softens sound, less hard noises.
voice_avggain 0.5 // Average gain to apply. Too low, too jarring, to high, too soft.
voice_fadeouttime 0 // How YOUR mic fades in/out when starting and stopping talking.<!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
That's cool <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I'd actually like to see a copy of your config or at least a link to the site where you got descriptions of all the cvars. Most sites I've been to seem a bit outdated in terms of newer commands.
Should I just go through and set everything to what you have posted, Terr?
a) Your mic is too close to your mouth. for some unknown reason a lot of people seem to believe that you need to be practicly eating your mic for it to work. This is not the case have the mic so it is about 1 to 1½ inches from your mouth and just below it so you are not breathing onto it.
b) Voice transmit levels way too high. try turning them down a bit and you may find that your voice comms will becaome a whole hell of a lot clearer.
c) Cheap headset or using a desktop mic. Headsets seem to be one area that people think they can get away with cheap. I paid £50 UKP for me headset and it is crystal clear on both voice transmit and for the game sounds. You get what you pay for get a good headset and your voice quality will improve for it.
Hope this helps
