and servicewomen.... servicepeople?
i only know of three people at these forums besides myself who are somehow officially involved with the military. Catpoker and MonsE are both Marines, and Renegade was/is/who knows/classified in the Army. I'm enlisted in the Marine Corps DEP, and my boot camp ship date is June 27th of next year.

who else at these forums is or has been involved with the military in the US or in any other place?

Good to know. I was seriously considering joining the navy until the recruiter laughed me out of his office because I was a little too heavy. I've lost 40 pounds since then, suck it stupid navy physical reqs!

The recruiter laughed you out? Sheesh, usually those guys bend over backwards to get you to join. But then I guess he has no incentive at that point...

Heh...that sounds like navy. It is true however, it's pretty hard to be large and be in the navy, more or less because ships are CRAMPED. Especially when you dog down everything and go to condition Zebra (basically every single water-tight door and hatch are sealed up.) I have a few larger people and when it comes to going through a hatch on a WTD, they struggle a lot. When your **** is 2 1/4 ft. wide and the hole you have to squirm through is barley 2 1/2, you run into problems.

Hah, I forgot to add, I'm not serving myself but I do have a friend who just got shipped to Iraq yesterday. He is gonna mostly be spending time in a base doing SATCOMM work, so I don't think he is in grave danger or anything, but the risk is still there.

Our army isn't bad from what I head, its the navy and air force you want to stay away from. Particularly the Upholder "submarines" (a.k.a. billion dollar bricks) and the Sea Kings (a.k.a. million dollar bricks). Our army gets the nice stuff, like the semi-new helicopters and the fairly new APCs. Its just the old Iltis jeeps that blow up (only when assisted by a land mine though, the Sea Kings and Upholders do it all by themselves).

The one good thing about the Canadian air force/navy however is that you will never, ever, ever have to do anything, since they are both completely incapable of it. I think we sent a whole destroyer to tag along with the US ships in the gulf as part of the afghanistan thing. And that was by far the largest Canadian naval deployment in 50 years. As for the air force, just make sure to end up with a CF-18, since all they do is fly around the countryside and practice.
