it is, when you exceed like 180% of base speed the cap hits and you drop down, thats why you can only bunnyhop so fast

wrong, i think this is the case for other hl mods but in ns you dont lose the speed you've gained (180%) you just cant go any faster, not that it matters.

Also i'm not sure abot the ability to reach upto max air speed when only freefalling and circle strafing, someone with time should check it though and if true, it could be a nifty trick for the nothing hiverooms <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

it seems likely to me... If you put gravity on zero and just use the strafe keys to move forward through the air... on a place such as the origin readyroom, you can go insanely fast...

Bunny hopping works by eliminating friction so you just get faster and faster. If there is no cap, how could there be a max speed? Of course there's a cap.

he just said that the cap, rather than forcing your speed down once you reach it, just limits your speed at the cap.

the 180% cap only comes into effect once you hit the ground, so if you're freefalling you could turn around in the air to accelerate and reach hl's max speed

The 180% speed cap is the highest you can reach above your default speed, it wouldnt make sense for your default speed (touching the ground) to be 180% of your... default speed.

if you want to give percentage for what you're capped down to when you hit the ground, it would be 100%

edit: or I could be confusing hitting the ground with pressing forward

It's possible to go above 180%, otherwise fades wouldn't be able to blink and lerks wouldn't be able to pancake. As a skulk, you could do it by jumping off a high area while turning to accelerate. Once you hit the ground though, the speed cap comes into effect...

edit: woops, i meant fades and lerks would still be able to blink/pancake, it would just be capped at 180%

Im almost sure there's a speed cap in the air, lerks can pancake up and down really fast... but im sure forward and backward have a cap
  • jesusfchristjesusfchrist Join Date: 2004-11-11 Member: 32748Members
Ya, I think the horizontal speed cap is 300% and the vertical cap is.. uncapped? I'm not so sure, but that seems about right.

The limit is 1.7*base speed (170%). Once you exceed it, you will be slowed to 1.7*base speed on your next jump.

Vertical speed is not capped by the game, but it is capped by the server with sv_maxspeed (2000 by default).
