Hl2 Graphical Bugs
<div class="IPBDescription">Is this just me?</div> Is this just me... but when I turn on my Flashlight in a dark tunnel with my pistol out, I see little green 'specs' all over the Pistol texture.
It also seems to have a bit too much 'shine' to it. Anybody else agree? (I've also noticed a sort of 'gloss' on metal canisters and whatnot in-game. Anybody else?)
And is anybody else getting a green Aura around light sources..? (Looking down a long tunnel at the other end, which is bright, almost casts a 'green' aura/shadow on the wall inside the tunnel).
And one last thing... My textures look... blurred. Any way to really fix this? (Most noticeable on the pistol).
Radeon 9800 128mb + Catalyst 4.10 (Upgrading as I type this... will post and see if anything is changed).
AA: Off
Antistropic Filtering: Trillinier (Yeah I know I spelt that wrong).
I hope I didn't spoil anything. I know the mods are a bit touchy on the subject.
Thanks for your time,
-Sid

My laptop:
3.2 Ghz P4
1 gig 400Mhz RAM
Mobility Radeon 9700 (128Mb)
Using Omega Drivers based on 4.10betas. I'll also check and see if I can upgrade those.
Only playin on 800x600 and everything toned down.

It depends on other things too, not just your video card. I have a 2500+ / 1gig RAM / Ti4600 and it runs with everything on High at around 50fps.
About the graphical bugs, you have the latest graphics drivers and version of Direct X, and your graphics card isn't overheating?

looks like some one went a bit overboard with the gold paint to me =P
..I'll see if I can get a better picture. Everything just looks a tad too shiney for some reason.
The gloss effect looks exactly like the 'Electrified crowbar' from Sven Co-op. It is more noticeable on Explosive canisters and other objects..
Oh, and notice the bluriness on the pistol. (Cannot see the 3 black lines on the slide clearly).
P.S. ATi Catalyst 4.11 does not fix this problem. I did, however, notice a very small improvement in FPS. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
HL2 settings:
Everything on high (Maxed out)
Low-ish Brightness. (2.3)
No AA
2xFAA
1024x768
Radeon 9800 128mb with 4.11 Drivers
Hmm I guess u got a pic already of it but hey, might as well show what i get

This is on a
AMD Athlon64 3400+
RADON 9600XT 256MB (Omega 2.5.58)
1GB PC3200 DDR
this is making me think this is a texturing error everyone gets?
No, and I'm sure of that.
I know this is know help at all... but it's such a relief to know that I'm not the only one <i>suffering</i> from these mighty graphical bugs. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Exageration is intended. (Slightly).
Glossy headcrab: Supposed to be like that
Shadowing on wall=What im guessing is that it's like 256 colors on some of those walls, causing the shading to be broken
Gun: seems like a material error, perhaps re-download source materials.gcf?

Yes - but not *just* the glossy headcrab. Other objects (like that small cylindrical explosives canisters I keep talking about) seem to be 'over glossed'... as if they're using the same effect like "Glow [Colour]" from those Admin mods and stuff. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Because Im pretty sure the small ones are supposed to be shiny to, they are made of metal..

Those ones, yeah.
Well... for some reason they just look a bit too shiney. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
(I was trying to be vague with my descriptions because I did not want to potentially spoil anything for anyone).
Vid Card: Geforce4 MX 440, <b><u>64MB</u></b>
Resolution: 1280x1024(LCD)
Other Graphics Options:
All on highest except Filtering (no anti-aliasing, only bilinear filering)
textures on medium
now i get average 30-40 fps,
i don't get this green pistol dot thing,
all my graphics look 100% fine,
i haven't found any bugs except in CS:S and in that case it is the mappers fault and not my hardware.
AMD Athlon XP 2700+ (2.17 Ghz)

So is this good enough for HL2? Or am i *BEEP*'ed

id say you can easily run it on medium settings with about 30 fps
i got a amd 2100+ 512mb ram and a geforce 4 ti 4600 and i run it on medium with around 35
your better processor and ram should compensate a bit for the card

It won't run with every setting at the max, but you should be able to get a good framerate & have it look ok. I would upgrade your vid card if you do want to upgrade anything.
That's the way it's supposed to look. Its the bumpmapping, it looks really strange in screenshots because the bumpmapped texture isn't animated so it looks overly speckled. It should be animating when you travel through different light sourses and look a like you have a nickle finish on the gun. Keep in mind that normally when you take picture of guns they are extreamly well lit, so you never see things like this. Textured metal does do that in low light.
Your headcrab looks a little wierd, but it is nearly impossible to analize weather or not bumpmapping is misbehaving from a still, I would need to see it animated to say for sure.
Try turning AA on at x2 and AF on AF on x4, I found some of the bumpmapping looks kindof iffy when it is rendering trilinear rather than AF.

Just a guess, but the game should run like a champ. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

You should have no problem getting good FPS out of that machine.

/edit quoted wrong person, meant to do chaos llama, but as u see you should be able to run it real good
