Sorry, that was a low blow. It's a hybrid First Person Shooter/Roleplaying game, although it's really not much of a first person shooter. You have to option to be in first person or third person, and you're a vampire from one of many clans. After customizing your skills and feats and what have you, you roam the amazingly well developed Vampire: The Masquerade universe doing RPG things, except everything is AWESOME because you're in Vampire: The Masquerade. The only real connection to Half-Life 2 is the engine: they're COMPLETELY different games.
I hope they make the most of the facial expressions. It's a little thing, I know, but it really adds to the immersion. I'm majorly impressed by the characters in HL2.

That's right. Vampire: Bloodlines was made by the same guys who made Fallout. And it's on the Source engine.
It may not have HL2's multiplayer for extreme-long-term replay value, but singleplayer is very likely, if not guaranteed, to be better than HL2's.

Minor addition: if you don't consider those 3 employees to be a good enough reason to be interested in Troika, here's over 600 megs worth of dev-narrated preview video to see what character creation and some early missions are like

Has any one bought this yet? I want it but I would like to know how heavy on the machine it is. I seem to manage the system specs but I don't want to play it in 3fps... My computer isn't the newest around so: amd 1700+ 768 meg ram ait 9700
Really want it but not to all costs when there is hl2 that might actualy run on my rig without too much problems On the other hand, I did play Morrowind on a 400 MHz celeron and didn't get too frustrated

To Tycho: Go ahead and say that. If you don't like aliens, New York, or Paris then go ahead and play DX for the gameplay. I'm just saying I don't like gothic settings or vampires, because, well, they're mythological creatures.
Okay, i preordered it it came with a free t-shirt ^_^ (not that ill ever wear it) Does it come with a multiplayer? becuase game says it doebut there is no mention of it on website(s) looks good i kinda liked morrowind seems a bit lost in it though still should be good if its god source more reason to chuck stuff at guards
