I like the idea, it sounds good. I am already registered at the new website, but i was unable to use paranoid as my handle then (this goes back to the july Email to test it) so i used A handle to test the site. The same as with kamikaze and someone joining before and getting the name, someone also has paranoid before me.

In attemp to keep the community active, I recommand on the following ideas. Maybe you have different plan, but I would do it this way :
- Release NS 3.0 Final - Get NS an official Steam mod - Develop Natural Selection Source ( Release 2005 ) - While NS Source holds the community ( developed by the free team ), you can develop NS2. This will force you to make NS2 better then NS Source or at least different. But I don't expect the release of NS2 before 2006 and as soon as the full HL2 SDK is out, I expect most of the NS community to want to play NS on HL2.
My website <a href='http://www.naturalselection.pexgames.com' target='_blank'>NS Pexgames</a> will focus its content on NS Source / NS2 as soon as information are avaible.
I'm curious what will happen in situations like the following, or if it will just be handled by a case-by-case basis.
Although I am not an active poster, I have been an active reader of these boards on a near-daily basis since the first halloween of NS. I have remained an active player as well. Although when I signed up to these boards orignally, 17-December 02, the name I wanted "ViGilantE" was already taken by someone that joined on 31-October 02. I have been unable to get in contact with them via PM to see if they are even still active, or interested in NS. Personally I am more than happy to dump the "21" from my name with this change, I never wanted it anyways, however you can probably see my predicament.
According to one of Flay's post in this thread previously, whoever has the earlier join date, will have precedence over the forum name. I guess my question is will that be the one and only determining factor ? What if the person's name I want hasn't posted since 2003 ? And will there be anything else that grants a person precedence over another's, such as post count #, last date of activity, vet icon, consti icon, etc ?

excellentè. i've been playing this game since what, november 1st 2002? the day after it was released. reg'd this name randomly, but don't ever use it ingame. still play all the time, run my own server, and i have been following (but not much participating) in the forum community to keep a close eye on what's going on.
i think letting people choose a completely new alias which will still be linked to their original account will make up for the alienation many people (like x5) are going through, and as you eloquently put it, it's the least you can do considering the mess that might arise.

It's a a beautiful idealism, but the sad truth is a large part of the community is far from 'mature' in that sense.
As most of you may or may not know, there is a new website for NS that's almost ready for release. It will replace the current natural-selection.org, is much faster, and takes advantage of community contributions for news, gallery images, frequently asked questions, etc. It's going to be great.

It's also going to be the permanent home for the NS community, which will later grow into the a bigger UWE community. I'm hoping a big percentage of you guys will continue to play and enjoy NS over the coming years, and that when it's ready, a lot of you will enjoy (and buy!) the big retail game I'm starting work on. Details are still scarce, but I'm designing it such that if you like NS, I think you'll LOVE this. It will be a 'AAA' title with a multi-million dollar budget, and on a new next-generation engine. Anyways, to make sure the community stays active and is able to gracefully grow as we release more games, I've focused on persistent player identities. The idea here is to promote community quality by encouraging everyone to identify as their 'handle' whenever possible. In attemp to keep the community active, I recommand on the following ideas. Maybe you have different plan, but I would do it this way :
- Release NS 3.0 Final
- Get NS an official Steam mod
- Develop Natural Selection Source ( Release 2005 )
- While NS Source holds the community ( developed by the free team ), you can develop NS2. This will force you to make NS2 better then NS Source or at least different. But I don't expect the release of NS2 before 2006 and as soon as the full HL2 SDK is out, I expect most of the NS community to want to play NS on HL2.

Although I am not an active poster, I have been an active reader of these boards on a near-daily basis since the first halloween of NS. I have remained an active player as well. Although when I signed up to these boards orignally, 17-December 02, the name I wanted "ViGilantE" was already taken by someone that joined on 31-October 02. I have been unable to get in contact with them via PM to see if they are even still active, or interested in NS. Personally I am more than happy to dump the "21" from my name with this change, I never wanted it anyways, however you can probably see my predicament.
According to one of Flay's post in this thread previously, whoever has the earlier join date, will have precedence over the forum name. I guess my question is will that be the one and only determining factor ? What if the person's name I want hasn't posted since 2003 ? And will there be anything else that grants a person precedence over another's, such as post count #, last date of activity, vet icon, consti icon, etc ?

I'm hoping most people will be satisfied with their new names if they are changed in the conversion, but I'd definitely be open to changing some of them manually if desired (so long as they weren't changing them to something totally different). That much is clear now at least.

excellentè. i've been playing this game since what, november 1st 2002? the day after it was released. reg'd this name randomly, but don't ever use it ingame. still play all the time, run my own server, and i have been following (but not much participating) in the forum community to keep a close eye on what's going on.
i think letting people choose a completely new alias which will still be linked to their original account will make up for the alienation many people (like x5) are going through, and as you eloquently put it, it's the least you can do considering the mess that might arise.
