<div class="IPBDescription">So they have been deported from my skull</div> Hey kids! Guess what! I'M IN MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF PAIN! Just all 4 of my wisdom teeth out, I'm lovin this, lemme tell you guys. Can't talk, my lip feels bigger than Bubba from Forrest Gump, and I could start bleeding profusely any minute. So, anyone else out there had this done, and if so, how long will did the whole "living hell" thing last for you?

Hey, on the plus side, I got me some oxy to make the pain go away! I think it's just kicking in now!

    To quote myself in my <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=66257&view=findpost&p=986819' target='_blank'>last post about getting my wisdom teeth removed:</a>
    <!--QuoteBegin-Marik_Steele+Mar 19 2004, 08:30 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Marik_Steele @ Mar 19 2004, 08:30 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><!--QuoteBegin-DOOManiac+Mar 19 2004, 07:26 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (DOOManiac @ Mar 19 2004, 07:26 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> I feel for you man. I had all four of mine cut out a few years ago.

    I suggest going to an oral surgeon who specializes in it rather than your jack-of-all-fillings dentist, unless you have confidence in him. My dentist is an **** so I was all for the oral surgeon idea.
    [edit] <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Same here, all 4 out by a surgeon I now have much respect for.
    I have no idea of my pain tolerance compared to other people's but let's put it this way: it's more annoyance than pain. Though I wasn't legally allowed to operate a motor vehicle to drive myself back home (painkiller + car + highway speeds = bad), I was conscious enough to change the radio stations in the car with my foot from the passenger seat. I say "with my foot" because both hands were trying to handle the gause, cotton, and tissues in and around my mouth. Expect to be drooling all over the place -- it's the same natural reaction people have when they first get a retainer or braces from an orthodontist.

    Once you've got a steady supply of tissues and a conveniently located wastebasket near the couch or sofa, plop yourself down and start ordering people around. I took advantage of my then-stationary status and decided I needed to watch all the classics I hadn't seen yet, such as Blade Runner, the Godfather, and Alien I. Meanwhile I was asking for all the ice cream I could handle.

    Bottom line: if you have a surgeon who's smart about it, getting your wisdom teeth removed will be a <i>good</i> experience, not a bad one <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--><!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I've had 2 of my wisdom teeth taken out, wasn't fun. My cheeks swelled up really bad soon after the procedure. Swelling/Pain lasted about a week, too. I know quite a few people who have had their wisdom teeth removed, I always thought it was comical.. specially after they get back they still can't feel a thing and I'd have to let them know that blood is coming out of their mouth.

    But err.. if I remember right they had to live with pain for about a month. Don't plan on eating anything without bleeding either.

    Ah, that sucks. And what sucks even more is I have to have the same thing done next week (Tuesday). But I only have to get 3 teeth pulled, so it will hurt with only 3/4 of the pain?

    If you get headaches and dizzyness, go back to the dentist, for you may have dry socket.

    That being said, I don't need to have my wisdom teeth removed <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    6 teeth pulled at once (Top and Bottom incissors(Not sure about that) and two wisdom teeth) . Heh, the doctor gave me some knock-out gas, I was out of it for 3 days (No I'm not joking) I remeber going home, drinking a milkshake (Note: Force Fed), going to sleep and then waking up and it was a Saturday (it was a thursday morning when I got the operation done, saturday afternoon when I woke up) I guess I don't handle anethestic that well. Yes I had eaten in that time period... I just don't remember it...

    Now I'm afraid, because my Insane Tooths Doctor has told me I'll need to get it done myself because my wisdom teeth havn't dropped. Repeadly.

    hehe, I only had my 2 top ones. My 2 bottom ones never came in.
    I opted for just the novacaine shots, no gas or full knock out stuff.

    I sat in the dentist chair listening to my head phones.

    Sudenly the dentist couldnt get out my one tooth, He could not get it no matter what.

    In the end he was basically sitting on me with me in a headlock while he pryed to get it out with some big pliers.

    it was pretty funny.

    EDIT: It outlasted the injury by a long shot. I got it refilled about a week away from when I was going to get my cast off. <.<

    Never had a tooth pulled, but I have had both my upper front teeth ground down to stumps by a coarse rotating file thing. Worst thing was that I had like 5 shoots of lidocain or whatever they use and half my jaw felt freaking numb but it still hurt as bad as ever.
  • torquetorque Join Date: 2003-08-20 Member: 20035Members, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
    I had a thread about this awhile ago too. ^^

    The first time, I had an upper tooth evicted, and it really wasn't bad at all, except I waited to take the painkillers ... which I shouldn't have done, cause when the anesthetics wore off, it hurt A LOT. I've sat in a tattooist's chair for four hours nonstop, and the tooth thing was WAY worse. ><; It didn't swell much at all, and I think what there was went away after a week or so?

    Then I had a lower tooth taken out, and that one swelled quite a bit, and lasted longer than a week. Didn't hurt as much, though.

    I didn't get gassed either time, just shots. It was um.. interesting having the dentist prying the teeth out, he had problems with the first one so it took him awhile and some effort <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Oh but the gas is the most fun part! After about a minute on the stuff I began to find the little heartbeat monitor to be the funniest thing in the world, and I could swear the doc/2 nurses were talking abou the proper placement of aprons on stools (the sitting kind) at one point, which made me giggle muchly also, and if I closed my eyes, it sounded like their conversation was coming from inside my brain. The weidest thing though, would be when I think one of the nurses made me touch her behind. Both my hands were resting kinda open on the armrests, and right after they set up the gas on me, one of the nurses started rubbing up against the side of said armrest in what she must have thought was a subtle (or accidental) manner, which was about level with her lower butt area, I was kinda freaked out, but far too amused by the heartbeat monitor to care, and eventually the doctor walks over and was like "You're too close to him, stand back!" cuz he needed to jab the IV into me. At the time I was kinda weirded out by that one, although maybe I was hallucinating?

    That and me trying to speak right after I got done with the surgery were the two best parts of this whole thing.

    Ahh, now getting my wisdom teeth is good <i>and</i> bad. Good because my wisdom teeth are, well, getting removed, but also because of the <b>gas</b>, but bad, well.. err my wisdom teeth are getting removed. ^_^

    I'd go to the doctors office every day just to get gassed if that happened.

    I'm in full posession of all four of my wisdom teeth, I find them useful for gnawing on things.
    Hurt like hell coming through and one of them took the cap off one of my back teeth which I haven't had replaced, but its kinda dead so I guess it's all good.
