<div class="IPBDescription">Narbacular Drop, now with minor gameplay</div> Hi everybody! (Hi Dr. Nick)
You may remember that I've made 2 threads in the recent past asking for people to test out a new graphics engine for a game I'm working on for my senior year at DigiPen. (previous threads: <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=81116' target='_blank'>round 1</a> <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83238' target='_blank'>round 2</a>)
Well, now my team has *just* finished meeting our "Engine Proof" milestone and we want to conduct another round of testing to make sure that this thing at least works in the respects that we claim it does.
So, if you're bored of hl2 and want to try out the begining stages of a completely new style of environmental puzzle game, then please download our <a href='http://www.0x01a4.com/nmsfiles/downloads/narbacular_drop_engine_proof.zip' target='_blank'>Engine Proof</a>.
The game is called "Narbacular Drop", and for those of you unfamiliar with what the term "Engine Proof" actually means, here's the rundown.
An engine proof is an executable copy of the game that simply proves that our team is competent enough to complete the game that we have designed. So, it's not a beta, it's not an alpha, it's not even a first playable. It's an "It runs and kinda does some stuff" version of the game.
So, you might be asking yourself "if this isn't really a game yet, then why should I bother downloading it?". And I just happen to have two reasons for you my friend.
1. To make sure the game runs at all, because if we find out that it doesn't work for you now, that means we can try to fix it so you can run it later when it's awesome.
2. This engine proof includes the new "Portal Technology" that you may have heard me muttering about in the past. These things are simply holes in space that you place wherever you please, look in one side and seamlessly see out the other. And at this point in the game, you can even walk through them as long as you're willing to put up with some special cases where it breaks.
I have no fear in claiming that these portals are visually astounding. Every single person that has happened to walk by our computer stations at school since we got them working has stopped dead in their tracks to just gaze in awe at these things. They're just that cool.
So, if you're convinced that you want to help us test this game as it exists so far, please download the latest build <a href='http://www.0x01a4.com/nmsfiles/downloads/narbacular_drop_engine_proof.zip' target='_blank'>here</a>. If something crashes, I would REALLY appreciate it if you would run dxdiag on your machine and sent the saved output to dkircher@digipen.edu .
If you simply notice that something doesn't quite look right, then you should probably ignore it since quite a few things are noticeably broken in this build.
Final Note: This game requires DirectX 9.0c and at LEAST 32mb of video card ram to run. People that do not meet these requirements and get a crash should not bother with a dxdiag.

yeah, weird things WILL happen. This test is mainly about whether it flat-out crashes.
And for those lucky enough to not experience crippling bugs, there's some gameplay to boot <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Edit- lol I just found out that you can make yourself go higher and higher by puting both portals on the floor and droping through one you keep going further and further up each time.

I ended up in a continuous falling loop at one point <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
And it still didnt crash then. I half expected to as it just kept speeding up, but it eventually reached terminal velocity <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

works fine for me. I can't believe you made me a princess though <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Ohh mannn

I went into a continuous fall and then after it was really fast then the entire game turned blue. I guess it didnt like going so fast.

So I think it works!

NVIDIA GeForce 2 GTS

I downloaded DirectX 9.0c to run it but it still didn't work. It just says Direct3D takeover of window failed. Then a blue window pops up for a second and then it crashes.

can you please run dxdiag, save the output, and send it to me?
dkircher@digipen.edu if you can.
1 gig ram

I'm getting mid 20 FPS's when I start doing things in the game.
P4 3.6GHz
2.0GB RAM
Works fine, never less than 200fps, generally around 275-300. Looks really promising too. Of course I didn't read the readme at first, so I just madly clicked around and wondered why bits of the map kept disappearing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
512 mb SDRam
Radeon 9000
FPS is a little dodgy, can go as high as 400 and as low as 30.
One minor crash, if I run around and click at the floor it will crash... very strange. Otherwise it works fine.
Sapphire X800 Pro 256mb
1gb Dual Channel XMS PC3200 Corsair Ram
Windows XP Pro, SP2
Ran fine.
Edit: After playing around with it a little more (with the understanding of how the portals are supposed to work), I realized that going through just about any portal can break your movement. At one point 'S' was making me go straight up, and I could easily reach the ceiling.

sometimes, pressing a strafe button makes me go up..

ati 9700 pro
Yeah, if you go to a 3rd person view then you would have seen why.
We just barely got portals kinda/sorta working before making this build. And you'll notice that sometimes when you go through a portal where one is on the floor/ceiling and the other is on a wall, then you'll come out tilted. And we base movement off of how the player model is oriented.
Just fyi.
