I shall rule the world. Trust me, you'll know it when you see it. My plan is as diabolical as it is simple. Nobody can stop me now! NOBODY!

Mwahahahahahahahahaha!

Why do these replies not surpise me? Most people don't have a fully-fledged plan of their life yet. Many people will never have one. In the end, there are too many uncertain factors (in your case: whether you get into SWAT or not. Yes, I know you consider that a certainty. I don't. ).

Me, I'm planning to get proper internet access back so I can play games. Unfortunately, that means that I'll have to work.

I'm noticing a trend... :>

interesting plan - good luck with it... we can go out for a drink when you get here =P if I haven't fled the country by then that is...

my life plan is very loose - to try to do as well as I can in the business world, move in with my womans, have babehs, retire out in the country, maybe in New Zealand...

I took criminal justice courses in highschool lol so I started out early.
.

Then you get your college degree in criminal justice administration, or just criminal justice, or criminology, or forensic science if you want.
Work part time as a police dispatcher.
Get a job as a police cadet.
Get rehired as a seasonal police officer.
Move into permenant location for full time job.

oh yea for police/ law enforcement type jobs. Being ex-military is to your advantage during the testing and hiring phases. You get free points on the test.

Although the only prior "military expirience" I ever had was as an Airman 1st Class with the CAP being the radio guy on ground SAR teams.

Dont do any drugs even marijuana. Dont get in any trouble. They will ask you if you have ever been arrested/put on probation etc even if it was as a juvinile.

Get good grades especially if you want to go federal.
Lots of federal jobs hire non cj related majors too such as the FBI hires tons of economics, foreign language, political science, psychology, and accounting, as well as computer science.

Be in good physical shape.

Any police academy has lots of phyiscal training aspects. Complete with drill sgts etc. State Police agencies are especially big on this too.

When applying for a cj job and you

fill out application
Take a test
Writtian and physical test. On math, writing, english skills, etc running, weight lifting, body mass to weight ratio must pass in some places, obstacle course etc

if accepted you get a background packet.
This packet can include you telling them your bank account numbers, past addresses, past girl/boy friend names (they want to dig up any dirt on you) where you have lived (dont live out of country for a long time b/c then they have to send somoene over there to do your background investigation, and u might get moved to the back pile) and lots of other personal stuff.

If you pass that you have an oral interview usualy its you and a panal of interviewers.
If you pass this
You have to go through a 550 some question psychological test.
You have to go through a polygraph lie detector test.

This wole process can take up several months.

and you have to do all this stuff every time you apply to a different agency. In some cases agencies that are close to each other MIGHT share some of the stuff like the psych test score but not a whole lot.

Agencies might give u conditional employment. As in take you to the advanced stages of the application process but during that time you cannot accept/work for another job in law enforcement.

Basically its a big pain in the **** but if its something you really want to do its very much worth it.

I am going to end up where ever the hell I end up, and in order to get there I am going to take whatever the hell path falls infront of me that provides the most potential benifit with the least potential effort. Right now I'm doing a comp sci major at some university that I got a bunch of scolarships at.

It's not "that hard to become a cop" it's that hard to become a cop with a decent shot at doing something you might call a carreer. To meet the minimums of basic constable work you don't need a whole lot in terms of education, but to acctually take the job anywhere you have alot better chances of basing yourself earlyer for those positions then attempting to do it later.

Anyone ever watch that movie "The Score"? Robert Devito made a curiously profound quote in his movie regarding planning your life. He essentially said to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life, no matter how hard. Then, you spend the rest of your life trying to grab the pieces of the dream until you finally have it.

I don't think it was just a movie line. The writers were trying to get through with something with that one.

It's good solid advice.

Where do you live? US or some other country,

i ask jsut b/c you used the word constable.

In the US some states still have a branch of law enforcement called constables.

They usualy either fill in the job of keeping order in very small communities where the population doesnt warrent an "offical" organized police force, or they are given the task of serving subpeonas and stuff like that.

PS

Police in america usualy make around (on average starting) 33-38k a year starting depending on starting expirience or other qualifications. So nothing great.

Then depending on where you are, things such as rank, added qualifications, and time spent with the department that amount will increase.

A police officer can make a LOT (as in a significant amount) of overtime pay if they want too and depending on where they work.

Also depending on where you work and live is another huge aspect.

State police in NY make about $10k more a year then their counterparts in PA state right below them for example.

Also "littletown" AL might make $33K a year starting while the cops in Aspen CO, might make a LOT more. The more higher tax base of the area more money to invest into police. A Sg.t or LT or Cpt. Rank will make a lot more money than a lower ranked officer too.
Federal jobs or being a LT you might get $56K -$80+K depending on what pay scale you find yourself in.
But then again state and federal police get state and federal health and other benifits.

At 25 - Bigger place, a job I enjoy

At 30 - Wife, kids (2 or 3 maybe although its really up to her and luck), a good job in the computer industry where I'm respected by my peers. A mortgage (not gonna be unrealistic and hope I'll own the house by then but you never know!)

At 40 - Kids that do what they're told! No mortgage, good pension scheme

At 45 - Affair with a 19yr old super model, a sports car (or a hover board ), quit my old job to run lan parties and play games, the usual mid-life crisis stuff.

50 - My wife takes me back (or joins in), my super model gf/ex uses some of her money to fund my grandest scheme yet, a zepplin!

60 - Using the latest in technology I reduce my age back to 25 again and float around the world in my zepplin biggin it up gigalo stylee while hosting lan parties (I can fly all over the world so can pick up clan members in Europe, America, Autralasia etc).

100 (65, 30 after my latest regeneration) - RULE THE WORLD!

concretely planned stuff

2004 07 17: enlisted in the USMC for 03 field
2005 06 05: graduate high school
2005 06 27: go to MCRDSD, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, get my **** handed to me for three months
2005 09 2_: graduate boot camp
2005 10 __: go to to the Marine Corps' School of Infantry

the "lifer" future

2005-2006: go to Iraq, see combat
2007 onward: indoctrinated into/recruited for some type of specops group
eventually: become a high level NCO and organize/assist in strategizing efforts in whatever conflicts the USMC will face.

there are a few other futures i'd like to see but they're not as well thought out as that one.

Well, right now I am working to get a few positions as a project lead here. I am working to start an apprentice type program for HS students in the works.

Eventually I plan to become a Capture manager for the company though its probably the most stressful position you can get.
