I had level 3 cloak, and i was standing VERY still as a squad of HA/HMG marines were passing by. One stays behind and looks in my direction. After a second or two he starts looking directly at me. I still don't move. Then he pulls the trigger of his shotgun and I go down.
Later he tells me that even though he couldn't see squat, my name appeared when his crosshair went over me, so on an off chance he took a shot. Is this true, that even if you are cloaked fully if someone decides to train a crosshair over you they will see your name?

And man, what was up with this guy? I'm a gorge, upgrading to cloak, and a heavy marine with an HMG walks up and spots my cocoon. Then the upgrade finishes and I disappear. He stands there looking puzzled for a moment, and walks right up to me. Then he just stares at me for 15 seconds and walks off without firing a shot. That was scary as hell, but still funny. =)
Thats not true at all. Ive seen team mates cloak in front of me, and they are not visible at all on max.
I myself was burst in on by 8 marines when i was morphing into a builder at a hive, and sat there while they built a massive base around me. Most bumped into me and jumped over me (i was in the middle of all of their structures.)
Because of this it's possible (done it) to be cloaked, do a blink (fade) or leap (skulk) and if you land correctly with the leap you will still be cloaked. One of my friends got from a heavily surrounded hive all the way over to the marine main base.. where his cloak wore off cos of the satellite detector thingy in the marine base. How's that for awesome... it took him ages cos you gotta let the cloak recover or something, but still... fun!
I have actually been cloaked, had a marine walk up to me, i've bit his ankles - he died, his team mates looked around and didn't see anything.. i was still sitting there cloaked.

Something simular happened to me twice.
#1 I was in ns_nothing (I think....I know it was the map with the "Room with Things"). I was a lerk with Lv3 cloaking and other upgrades (dont matter). I fired a spore cloud at 2 HMG jetpack marines and ran/flew away around the corner. They gave chase but I landed and stood still to cloak. The first marine just missed touching me by like 4 inches. The 2nd marine got stuck on me but did not do anything, he just jumped and jetted over to the ladder behind the other marine that was waiting for him. So I turned and fired 2 more spore clouds. 2 Dead and surprised marines.
#2 I was growing into an onos (I had lv3 cloaking already), when about 4 HA/HMG marines came into the room. They heard me making noises in my egg and started looking around for the egg before it hatched. Little did they know that a big mean and cloaked onos was about to hatch inbetween the 4. 4 dead HA/HMG marines and 4 "WTF" messages after.
That doesn't sound like an Onos killing things.
I think the reason players sometimes seem to stupidly miss cloaked aliens is they're new. When I first started playing NS, sometimes an alien woudl vanish and I'd assume they were either figments caused by lag or they died without the death animation kicking in. It was quite some time before I figured out it was a feature.
Also, for some reason, spent shells flying out of my gun ALWAYS get lit up a day-glo green color simmilar to alien blood, and that makes it hard to tell if I'm seeing alien blood or not when I spray a room with gunfire. =/
Let me just make sure, what color is the alien blood, anyway? I don't see it much, at least not the ammount that's in normal HL, and I'm not sure what color it is.
