Bad Server Manners In Europe

<div class="IPBDescription">Do american servers kick foreigners?</div> I've noticed quite a few NS servers here in Europe where I am inexplicably being kicked out of. Some times severely, other times just once. I discovered that some folks have put up code to boot out, say, all but brits and irish off their server. Or all but germans from their server. See, some of them got password. Now that's a fair hint that this party is for invited only. But others just float around and you haven't got a chance to tell if has some sort of anti-foreigner fascist code running or not. You just have to make second guesses when you stare at the console suddenly, having been kicked from a game for no apparent reason.

I haven't played CS for a LOOOOOOOONG time, so I dunno if this phenomen is a carry-over, but I think it's a sad, sad one. No doubt people are entitled to do with their servers as they see fit - but to discriminate against nationality like that on public available servers just is so bad manner that I cannot believe they are even allowed to run NS mod. I'd love to have my own server to play around with, and it seems we are a few that could pool together to pay for one. I would certainly want full control of whom I'd want to play with, but put up a blanket ban on all foreigners? Parochialism reaches new heights...

They dont want laggers with 1000+ ping, 600 is enough at the moment. If youre an american, you might want to stick to your own servers anyway, for lags sake.

its more of an IP issue and letting local players finding local servers so they can find servers with good pings on them intsead on someone from us or canada europe wherever snatching it up instead...

That's retarded thing to do as a server admin. I somehow can understand the german and the french since their english generlly SUX! But it's still stupid, since it's not the American's fault that some country decided not to teach childeren enlish... Anyhow what I do can understand is if there is a script kicking anyone with ping above 500. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'>

Indeed. I mean, if you're all french guys, and no one playing was taught english worth € 0.02 in school, having a brit playing, who was taught the equivalent of € 0.02 worth of french in school, it will be disruptive. He won't understand a thing, and the rest of the players can't command him very well, or get some decent team playing going.

But what the H* does it matter if a bloke joins from sweden, denmark or belgium on your German server if their ping is good and people get along, either in german or some half-cocktail of german/english? Please, admins, don't be such nationalists!

Worst, however, is the blanket "Kicked by console". You have NO idea why you just got the boot.

Originating country is a bad way to kick people off if you want to keep pings low. If you are going to the trouble to write something that auto kicks on country, you might as well kick on ping times, it would reduce load on the server (taking the ping time already kept in half-life as opposed to doing arin or reverse dns lookups to find out originating country)

Someone that happens to go through a broken/congested router could be literally 20 feet from the server and get a worse ping than someone on the other side of the world. Im guessing its either someone with a gross misunderstanding of how the internet works or someone who just doesnt like certain countries.

Personally, I have everyone from t-dialin.net (which is a major ISP is germany im told) firewalled from my server, from the rampant abuse that comes from there. I can understand why people would block certain countries.

Banning by ISP is still a shot gun approach to it, but at least a few steps above banning a whole nation of gamers. There is, however, a point where you must ask yourself: do I want to KEEP banning WONIds 10 times a week, all from players that originate from this ISP.... or just blanket ban and save myself, my regualrs from soo much grief and get much nicer games on my server.

I ping better on UK servers than I do most American ones. Then again, being right next to the Atlantic might have something to do with that. I can't vouch for Americans in California. Plus, Europeans tend to be more well-mannered than most Americans. At least most Europeans don't type in all caps, have their nick as "COUNTRY RETARD" and constantly scream for a HMG and HA, and when they don't get it start up a vote to eject the commander. COUNTRY RETARD, if you read these forums, I am out for your blood.

Hmm, I think we got our fair share of HMG HA spamming n00bs here. Not many all-caps'ers true, but when you start getting below 18 years of age the dork factor rises dramatically. Why, few nights ago I had the pleasure of playing with a pretty bad mannered german. Not RUDE in the sense where you slur and stuff, but just being disruptive so much that our rather good commander got fed up and ejected, picked up his gun to have some fun with the grunts . . .

This game really calls out for a clan. I found one, we still need our own server though.

Bad manners is all ive ever seen in all my gaming experience(about 6 years) from people from europe. The rudest poeple ive ever met in games were from britain and france. All i hear about in games on foreign servers now is about Saddam, and how they hope he nukes the USA, or Osama and how c00l jihad is. Ive developed a hatred for people from europe from the internet. Not just games, but chat rooms as well. I know some history, not a ton, but why do people from UK hate USA so much?

Ive gotten sick of playing games becuase everyone is such an jerk. THE WORST is that new revolutionary war mod BattleGrounds. If youre an american expect to hear LOTS of USA bashing from the people that play. And its not some role-playing the war type stuff. Its about current events.

The nicest people ive met gaming have been from Canada and Japan . And of course the USA, but ive met an equal amount of jerks from USA as well.

This is exactly the kind of attitude I spoke of. I guess people from UK just think theyre like some kind of elite race of humans. Better than everyone else.

Do you think the majority of poeple who play half life voted for Bush? Hell, most people that play were too young to vote, or didnt vote at all.I know I didnt. I voted independent for the reason that i didnt want a war crazed leader.
What the hell am i supposed to do and or change my leaders, dont take it out on me in a game. Thats what i see all the time in games from Europeans they drag real life issues and topics into games when alot of people just want to be playing.

Eh... that's the worst reason ever. Your own latency doesn't affect the others.
Allthouhg of course, if you have 1000 ping, it would be better if you left so someone who had nice ping could play <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'>

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! !!!!!! Seriously though both Americans and Europeans need to be at peace with each other. I mean just look at the term European. It suggests an entire continent of mofos ready to kick our **obscenity** or at the least make fun of our english skills. I dunno sometimes it feels like as an American with a British scientist's name (heh) we are alienated from the center culture in Europe (after all we did spawn from you guys back in the 1600s). Lol I can tolerate Canadians. For some reason I always tolerate Canadians. We're both North Americans. Lol. Since America is such a young country we need time to mature. Britain, France, and Germany have all been around for centuries on centuries and haev gone through much which is partially the reason Americans may notice they permiate a sense of eliteness that just not right. They see all the self motivated ego centric things we do and never notice that we're still a teenager in proportions to life times of countries. Were isolated from Europe and have never been evolved in enough to grow up fast. But this is no reason to be stupid. Peace for everyone when we go together hand in hand blasting Kharaa **obscenity** off our spaceships! Well ironically. Oh yeah 1000 pings are definately fun. More lag so you can knife to death the onos (or overweight cow that needs to go on slim fast real quick) trust me. Ive done it before.

I wasn't really thinking of rude players when I wrote this thread, more of server operators that ban people from outside countries. Since america doesn't have that many countries, such a behaviour is probably unlikely.

I´m in Norway, Scandinavia, Europe (just for those who don´t know where it is....) and i play most of the time on American servers, mainly because they use their voice comm much more and are cool players.
