Just find specific servers that are NS only and add them to your favorites, such as NSarmslab.
If you have at least 5 servers of NS only, you should never have a problem getting in at least one.
co is so integrated with ns now, that there is nothing you can do to stop it.
Moron admins need to realize that giving marines 60 minutes to kill the hive usually guarantees them the win, especially when there is respawn invincibility, more than 5 people per team, or extra levels plugins that make marines nearly invincible.
Today I was able to move faster than a celerity onos with charge activated, hover in the air indefinitely, reduce surrounding alien's hp by 1/8, and automatically repair my armor faster than the aliens could take it away. Of course I was level 25 or so at the time, but that is much more powerful than an alien at level 25.

I know the mod you were playing with and it's not for everyone, but many people do enjoy this. The extra skills are customizable so some servers that use this mod will have it more balanced than others.

CO to build your player skill.
NS to build your teamplaying skills. (And strat)

then again it could be the lessened popularity combined with the time of day and the low players servers defaulting to combat

but just because NS itself went downhill, I'm gonna have to agree that combat is better or equal to NS.
I guess Flayra created Combat because he didn't know how to make NS better, it kept getting worse instead... with every update (1.0 => 2.0 => Combat [rip ns])
cause look at what happened: Combat got released => Combat players arrived => All legend/decent NS players quit => No NS Clans left.
games like NS suposed to have plenty of clans, because such games based on teamwork attracts clans.
NS was going the wrong direction since the begining.. otherwise you'd see at least 5,000 players playing. but instead we've got 2k players which are 30% bots, 50% combat players, 20% ns players (10% of them joined ns_ map by accident <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

it is indeed fun, but if your playing for the teamwork/strategic element, rather than the 'big boom, running guns, and gore galore' element, then it's less than adaquate <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Filter the ones you don't like, that's what filters are for.
this game has a "new-age game genre". it is the combination of a strategy and an action-fps game. and that is why we, real ns fans, loved this game. if the number of the co_ only servers increase quicklier, our "new-age game genre" will be lost, and ns will be like other action-fps online games.
for those who say "use your filter": yes we do know how to use the filter to find ns_ servers. but that is not the point what we are talking (actually complaining) about. <b>the point is that combat is killing the "real" ns.</b> and the communities who are managing co_ only servers are helping to the death of ns. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->
there's too much combat beein played on many servers.
and I hate those servers who have those kiddylike plugins most CS servers do have these days! sounds like "godlike" "multikill" 'n stuff. this sucks and has nothing to do with the basic idea the devs. had with it.
it's just that co has unfortunately displaced ns during the times i have to play
i'm all for further ns customization actually. something like with the blizzard games even
do a filter search on maps for co and you'll see that there are significantly more co maps, with dumb plugins, than ns maps.

Marines were able to kill the hive at about 21:00 because my team did not do so well, even though I did.
I wouldn't count it as a marine victory though, since co games shouldn't be longer than 18 minutes.
- your team has the best players (or just 1 or 2 good players)
- you have a bunch of rambos in your team
- you can defend the hive 'till timelimit is up by camping alot nearby your base and upgrading yourself - result : victory after timelimit is over
now the advantages of ns maps:
- everyone has the same upgrades (as marine and alien ofcourse..you have the same chamber upgrades you can choose)
- Rambos always die or don't survive that long, because they don't stick together with the team
- you have to operate as a unit (even more than in combat)
- everything (the situation) can change imidiately
Result:
- combat is just like counter strike...walking around 'n killing each other without any using of tactic. (the only tactic you have is if someone says at the beginning of the round "uh yeah let's all save for jp/ha")
- the upgrades are comparable with counter strike (you have no chance if a marine has wu2 and you only have leap as alien, in cs it's like if the CT has a M4A1 and you only have a Pistol, you can only beat the enemy if you're more skilled than him or you have a good portion of luck)
comment on that: yes I know you can't compare these two mods..I just used them to give you guys an example in another way so you can imaginize what I mean. so don't write any comments like "uhh you can't compare these two mods blah blah blah..."

That is not an advantage at all.
If you're really quick as a skulk you would benefit more from celerity than carapace.
