    Just a suggestion, normally you would want to recruit someone that you have played with a lot before hand and know how they react. As for ranks, I find them useless with the exception of a leader/co-leader and everyone else is essentially a member.

    Well the first people to join will get the leaders but once we have all leaders its gonna be simple . Players will get thier rank based on how well i think they went through training ( NS and CO map) Highest ranks are the better players as for bottom ones new players .

    The thing is you probably aren't going to have enough members to even fill all those ranks. The avg clan probably has around 10 to remain active. Unless you're OSS.

    Ranks are useless. Keep it to "leader", maybe "co-leader", and then "member". That's it. Keep it simple! You're not playing for the ranks.

    as 2 of 8 said, forget about ranks. They're worthless. For one thing, your ranks like "private" shouldn't even be there, you're not recruiting noobs, you should recruit people you know well (as stated earlier). IMO, a clan's members should be on equal ground, especially in discussions, but the leader is there to make definite or final decisions with or without discussions.

    Structure is something that is only applicable once you know what material you are dealing with.

    In something as small as a clan, it makes more sense to use a tierless, flexible structure with cross-training, rather than a military structure, which is orientated around making recruits fit in with a large, logistics train.

    Of course, if you are into NS as much for the atmosphere and inherent role-play possibilities, then good for you. Give ranks, go crazy in internal email and use a catchy "Frontiersman" style font. Try www.iconian.com. Start an army of players. ^_^ Organise your own Battle for the Galaxy style tournament. Sign up for the constellation! (Cough). <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Just keep in mind your goals and organise your clan amongst the most intelligent lines. The smallest military unit is really a four man unit, two of which are required to make a squad (eight men). So a military ranking system doesn't even really make sense until you have a platoon of people to manage (twenty five to thirty people).
