Is Ns What You Thought It Would Be?

when you first played ns... was it what you expected it to be?
i mean when i watched the trailer i thought ns maps would be all dark and moody... being a marine would be scary, thats what i thought. so i was wrong about the dark scary maps, none of them are that dark really, no deep shadows to hide in. but it was defo scary the first few times playing as marine, the first time you see an oni running around corner or a blinknig fade hit you from no were... is just classic <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i am always thinking of a FPS and RTS hybrid when i tried CS and AOC <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
hoped i can make one one day, and then i found NS
I came from cs, so i had low expectations, but ns really is abit differnt from most games.... In a good way.

Oooh boy how wrong I was. Thanks NS team for STEALING MY SOUL.
ns is by far the best thing EVER to come out of the hl engine, weither you like it or not. no one, not even the offical games made with it, tweaked and squeezed every ounce of power out of the hl engine like NS does.
and maybe its my monitor but none of the official maps are dark for me O_o
i dont gamma hack or anything, i just turn gamma up full in the ns options, and leave brightness at standard. some maps are to bright imo... *cough*vail*cough*
It took me something like two weeks to finally be able to get a sense of the gameflow and see if we were winning/losing within seconds upon entry into the game.
I originally heard about NS from a friend in AP Physics, and after I figured out what was going on, I loved it. It was FPS, and yet it was RTS. I could play the same map over and over and use a different strat everytime. NS was the ****. When everyone worked together to help the team win.
cant wait to see what these guys do in their future games
Natural-selection, in the ancient days of 1.01 yore... I was instantly in love. I never expected anything to be that much better than CS, and I was totally taken by suprise.
At any rate, NS was alot better than I expected. While the "dark and atmospheric" part didn't hold true after 1.0x, the rest was spot-on.

Just turn down your gamma, and volia, dark and moody.
Thats pretty much how i found it...
got real bored one day in june of 03... (early june) so i started to dl all these mods...day of defeat etc. Then i found ns.
And i uninstalled all of those other mods.... <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->
anyway, yeah it was what i expected. Took me about a week to get used to it. <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif' /><!--endemo-->
him: "i've played all the mods, cs, dod, ns, but this one is my favorite"
me: "ns?"
him: "what? uve never heard of natural selection? *gives few details* check it out, natural-selection.org"
*checks*
honestly, i expected a death-match type humanoid-looking-aliens vs marines. i didn't even click the "about" button. from that day forth, i played NS at least 5 times a week <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
much more than i expected. before that i was a cs nubcaek <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
...Not really any reason I looked into besides it being one of the more fun mods I played. Despite the fact I rarely comm and never use my mic <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> . I just remember being a gorge during the Perma-gorge days with my good ol' 56k.
I'm still not quite sure why I play it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
I think dark maps could be really fun in single-player, but they're generally frustrating in multi-player (plus most players will just boost their monitor or gamma and ruin the effect and make the rest of the artwork look like crap).
