Silly Server Bans?

Server admins too abusive?
Before you start reading, this isn't a topic complaining about a particular server, nor does it name and shame any particular group of people or server admin(s). The purpose of this thread is to discuss the causes of most silly server bans, and in particular I am looking for certain feedback or help in the matter.

Alright. Game 1. My first upgrade in CO as alien is ALWAYS leap, never anything else. I am usually careful while getting my first kill or two but after that when I get leap, it's rush rush rush for me. I did this in one particular server, always took leap and I was called a "leap lamer" and kicked/banned from the server. I haven't been unbanned ever since.
Game 2. We're playing on ns_bast and have most res nodes but only one hive as the others have been 'locked down'. The other team goes for HA to try and push/siege our final hive, so I decide to go onos (yea, 1 hive onos sucks in comparison to 2 hive onos with stomp) to devour the HA's hence helping the team fight off the PG HA rushes. Guess what? The second I devoured the first HA (who happened to be that clan server's admin), I got kick banned immediately. The reason I got in my kick was "5vs6, no onos allowed". That's right, I wasn't asked not to onos nor did the server rules state anything about not going onos. I only thought it was fair that if marines get HA, onos isn't a bad thing?
Game 3/4/5/6/7/8. RATES?! My god, I get this so often, I am sick of it and I am banned in about 3-4 pubs because of this. I have never touched my rates, I am using whatever default vales I get from the NS installation. I am on a 10Mbit University Connection in UK, so my ping is usually the lowest in most of the European servers that I join and the second someone sees my ping - they start screaming "DAMN LOW PINGERS! FIX YOUR RATES!!!". I usually start rushing with SG as my third upgrade (resupply being my first, and weapon1 my second) [talking about CO here], and every kill I get I am accused of having dodgy rates. Why? Why should I change my rates all the time to match the server that I join, what is wrong with defaults? My ping does NOT spike, it remains a constant low - there is no need for me to change. Yet, I find admins running commands on my local client using AMX and banning me left and right. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Game 9. Knife hacking, eh? It is common knowledge that the knife is a very good weapon to finish off a skulk if you run out of ammo half-way (specially useful if you have more than one or two skulks coming at you). Consider this scenario, start of a game in ns_tanith and the comm asks us to relocate to double. I go there to build a CC, and three skulks are incoming from the other side (from cargo). So it's a pretty easy firing spot for me and there's quite some distance between me and the skulks. I kill the first skulk and almost the second with LMG, pistol the second to death and almost kill the third (who was hopping about). I knew I had put in at least three pistol shots into the third skulks so I took out the knife and knifed the skulk once and it died. What happens next? I get kicked instantly. I rejoin and ask why I had been kicked, and I get told that I'm exploiting fast weapon switch and knifing. I don't even know HOW you can exploit the knife against a skulk... so that made no sense to me. And obviously, since I had been kicked at that point, the relocate failed as well (it was a 4vs4 game and hive was fusion, so aliens got back to double easily). This hasn't happened very often, but seriously if anyone knows what this knife exploit is please fill me in because I have absolutely NO idea.
Game 10. If I try to comm without voice, I get ejected. This is partially understandable but what if I am sick of hearing people scream on their mikes and want to play without voice enabled? Is it that big a crime? Why can't marines just talk in team chat or use comm icons once in a while instead of asking for everything over the mike? I dislike how voice chat has almost become a pre-requisite for playing as a commander in Natural Selection.

Well those were just some of my rants on being banned for silly reasons, and I was hoping on some feedback from the community here. Once again, please note that I did not name any particular server or clan for this - so my post should be perfectly legitimate. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Yes, I have heard from a lot of people that I should play in clans instead for a better experience, but I enjoy freelancing and try to play on servers with good people. So please don't reply by saying "Stop playing on public servers", I don't have much of a choice and if things continue the way they are going, I won't have many servers left to play on. -_-

That's the only thing I have a problem with. A comm carries the entire rine side on his/her decisions. If you ignore your players, including disabling voice, they have every right to kick you for someone more communicative.
You gotta find a better server that you would play on regularly, get to know people and bam your a regular, people know you and won't accuse you.
as for #10, communication is a must need as commander, some one that says they are just going to disable voice, sounds like, "thats it i'm ignoring you all and doing what I want", also people that have to type out on teamsay takes a while, especially if they need a med in the middle of a battle.
Agreed, but try making that singular...find one server, get to know that ppl and have a blast.

you obviously havent commed in a server where half the team is yelling bs into their mics.
while comms dont necessarily need sound as much as other marines, its still pretty damn hard to concentrate with those idiots abusing voicecomm. thank god for mute.
Incidentally, I quite often find myself muting everyone but the commander. The more you rely on sound to play, the more irritiating it is to hear 3-4 players arguing over chambers, or taking turns extending their e-wang at each other, etc etc. Sends me up the wall.

This is so true and honestly in a pub unless you're the comm of an unruly team there is absoloutly no need to use voice comms at all.
But yeah to grOOvy sounds like you've been unlucky in finding servers though there are some good ones out there (few)
also: on your connection there's no reason why you cant increase your rates, it's not really for other people but more yourself, good rates a very helpful in playing better.
I admin an ISP-hosted server in Australia, but I only ban people for blatant cheating (which is so hard to tell in NS its not funny) or for outright abusive behaviour towards other players. Onos in 3v3 etc is just looked at as poor sportsmanship and frowned on, but its nothing I'd kick or ban someone for.
I have, and I muted them. But I didn't mute the real players too.
Oh, and you do need a mic to comm in pub servers. Not because you can't do it without one but because if your team is confident you, you will be ejected. Unless you can type supa-fast of course...

This is the only one that I got angry at because it also happens to me. I don't change my rates, but admins will often "amx_execclient Smith unbindall" me, so I've recently been backing up my config. I don't readonly it because then I can't change it whenever I'd like. But yea, it is annoying.
Oh, and hey gwOOv3h.

Not adjusting your rates from the standard is totally irresponsible and foolish thing to do as a ns player. Playing with default rates are NOT a good thing, really you should be ashamed of your self for not changing it. Im not trying to be mean just trying to point out your error of judgement.

god, i hope you're kidding. cause if you really think that; first of all, who told you that, and second, how could you believe them?
Admins are a representation of what a gaming community is like. Why? Reason is all admins were and are NS players. Before they became admins, they were regular players of the community like everyone else. They then purchased their own servers or was a regular long enough to be trusted by other admins/owner. Then they bring their ideals of what's right and wrong in NS with them and uses those ideals to dictate their enforcement actions on the server. If it were only a few bad apples, then it's easy to shrug it off since if the server has abusive admins, chances are the server won't last long. But if there are many who are bad admins, then it's a telltale sign that something else is going on.

Yea, I now usually hang out in the YO/Bry/THV/Surftown servers only now. Everywhere else is new player fest.
Get 5 frends, join gaming orb or clanbase... or cal. No more kick bans.
regardless of the 'deathmatch' style of NS in some situations, being able to hear where people are relative (using headphones) is an essential part of the game for me - it's part of the atmosphere, and it's a skill you can develop... you can't hear a sodding thing when you have half a dozen people screaming down the mic - more often than not just having a social conversation.. what's wrong with typing?!
I played from 1.03 and through all of 1.04 without using my mic once in NS - I'm the first to admit i'm far from a top rate comm but back then I was pretty decent (not much to be said about my aim however) and i never used a mic. good use of waypoints and the occassional bit of typing was all it took...
now every one just relies on their mics - hardly any one types any more.. annoys me
incidently, the most amusing thing I have been kicked for was being a PT - it was perhaps my 2nd or 3rd day of having the icon, and i turned up on a server and got kicked. i rejoined, and asked what happened, and the admin said that because I was a PT, I knew exploits in the game that others didn't and so couldn't be trusted to play fairly. *WHAM* kicked from the server with a ban...
No, that's not silly. Who would want a frenchman fighting on your side?
(Yes I'm kidding, it's just a joke, blah blah blah.)
o_0 You weren't being sarcastic?
...Excuse me while I crawl into a corner and die....
Default rates are NOT good enough for anyone on a connection higher than 56k. To other players you appear rather laggy, even if you are on a lan. This is infuriating in combat where skulk and fades have focus, you can aim dead at them but because of their rates you can't hit them or hit them enough. In console or in your config file, type "cl_updaterate 101", "cl_cmdrate 101", "rate 20000" (The defaults are at 30, 20 and 5000 respectfully if I remember right). You should hit a lot better and the game should be smoother, also people will not complain anymore.
