The best way to conquer gaming addiction is to do something with your life. I know it sounds sarcastic and simple but it's really true. Video games provide an escape from life, which is one of the reasons it's so popular. But if you flip the script and try to develop interests and/or goals in real life, you'll find the games are no longer so addictive.
For instance, I used to have a fetish for collecting as much gold as I could in a game, didn't matter what game it was. But then I realized it wasn't real money so I suddenly began developing an interest in making money in real life. A nice side effect was that I was able to upgrade my computer and buy a bunch of cool new games! Unfortunately I don't have any time to play them; too busy making more money <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
here's what you should do, if you think you have that much trouble with gaming to much ten just go and enter a ton of huge tournements with big cash prizes. then one of two things will happen
1- you'll win lots of money and decide that your addiction to games is worth while and you should keep doing it
or
2- you will get your but severly kioked and go into a state of depression and stop gaming, you will then look elsewhere in the world to rediscover yourself and your true purpose in life.
Its not the gaming thats addicting, it is the social interaction one obtains from it. Gamers are addicts of being social. You take away the game you take away the social interaction. My hypothesis is that many gamers have low self-esteem, hence they hide behind their online persona, and they are judged solely on their ideals, opinions, and attitude. In real life, people are judged by physical appearence, as well as ideal opinions and attitudes. Low self-esteem can come from being socially outcasted in their real life enviorment (i.e. school) or because of undesirable phsycial appearence.
People need social interaction (ALL people), which is why if they cannot get in their immediate surrondings, they will turn to the online life for the above reasons.
Its tough to turn off a social addiction, because its something we ALL need. But spending too much time on the computer can put a nasty damper on one's reality.
I recommend trying to find gamers in your area that you can meet up with in person. That way you can go out some where, discuss gaming (NOT by any computers), but at the same time get off the computer and enjoy real life social interaction, about gaming.
Also i think that when you are good at a game, you feel successful and the feeling of success, especially in relation to the other gamers you are beating, is a strong part of the addiction.

I think that would be a viable solution.

just stop
or
find another addiction.
