No Fast Switch And Choosing Weapon Possible!

hi, i play ns since version 3, but now i have a big problem. since 2 days i can not change my weapons directly (with the number buttons) and i have no fast switch. i just can change weapons by weapons forward. people on servers says it was a bug and that it will be away when i die first time, but that doesnt happen.
also there is the problem that my first shot/bite is slow, that means when i try to fire it needs a short time to shoot.
i am sorry that i dont have more information, but i hope that anybody has an idea what to do. i installed version 5 new, but that didnt help either.

please help!

    some sysspecs would be apreciated, however try these things:

    1) Rename config.cfg to config.bak.

    2) use Spybot S&D, Adaware, AVG, and what ever the new microsoft malware scanner is.

    a - check your pc for spyware and stuff. its weird, but that could help.
    b - check your config files. even if shown in the options dialouge, it could be that your weapon binds are corrupted
    c - check, if this happens on other servers, too.

    first thx for the help, but i am sorry to say that nothing worked.

    i used ad aware 6 and killed all spyware.
    then i renamed the config.cfg in the ns directory to config.bak
    but i still have this problem and it is on every server i tried, i think 10 or 15 servers. i am sure this is a problem with my program, but i dont know what.

    i hope you have any other ideas, if not i guess i have to reinstall completly <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    start up ns, and before joining any servers type this in the console

    hud_fastswitch "1"

    then join a server and see if you cant fast switch weapons again.. if you're going to start somewhere to try and resolve things you might as well start from the beginning.

    but i installed all new, hl, steam and ns, now it works fine, what a luck <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
    though i would be very interested in what caused these failures

    steam cache errors, maybe through a system crash or errors in update transmission.
