Onos Devour

SeanrctSeanrct Join Date: 2005-01-17 Member: 36041Members
Every time I go to devour someone, they never seem to get devoured, they just keep running around killing me.

Is there a special way to devour a marine? Do they have to be stomped first, and is there some type of marine you can't devour (eg Jetpacks)?

You just need to practice a little more. Aim with your horn at the body of the marine.

Aim at their legs. I usually (when I rarely play as onos) just press crouch and devour them from their feet. It's easy once you learn how to do it.

I suggest browsing the forums or going on irc to look for a crosshair that helps you improve your devouring.

You have to aim fairly low, try putting the tip of your horn just below the marine's groin.

    whoo boy.
Scripts _can't_ devour for you. Scripts can't aim. There's no command that checks where a hitbox is, so no script can aim your devour for you. End of story. SLizer, I hope you meant a devour crosshair.

Just a heads-up, scripts are a touchy topic on these boards. A <u>lot</u> of people misunderstand what they can and can't do. For instance: they can't make bunnyhop for you, they can't make you shoot faster than you normally could, and they can't make leap-biting or blink-swiping easier or more effective than doing it manually.

I don't want to spark off another fire, I'm just trying to kill this at the source. Eventually <i>someone</i> will bring it up again in the General Discussion forum, and you'll see the firestorm those kinds of discussions create. Actually, scroll back a week or so and you'll find a moderately long one. Scroll back to right before the forums closed (November last year) and you should find a 30+ page one. Interesting reading, all of it. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

OK then, I don't know much about how scripts work. I thought you might be able to get one. I don't use scripts anyway.

All a script does is basicly execute a command for you, like push the button for you, it can't aim or anything...
  • SkySky Join Date: 2004-04-23 Member: 28131Members
Exactly. Scripts are links of commands, the same commands you bind to you keyboard keys/mouse keys. There's no "autoaim" button you can push to snap to a target, therefore there can't be an "autoaim" script. Simple.

The vast majority of scripts out there are configuration scripts. Getting certain keys bound closer for different lifeforms and what not. There are no aim scripts. Any script you can think of or heard of is usually a far cray from being anything helpful.

Except for the continually mentioned 3 jump and pistol scripts. Which I"m pretty sure isn't what sets apart the folks who are really into NS from the casual.

Thanks for explaing scripts (everyone who did). I don't cheat, so I won't be using aimbots.

Well not exactly. It exacutes a CHAIN of commands that would usually be difficult to pull off manually and would require a fair bit of practice to master.

    <!--QuoteBegin-Sky Posted on Jan 19 2005+ 06:13 PM --></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Sky Posted on Jan 19 2005 @ 06:13 PM )</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->they can't make you shoot faster than you normally could <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well...yes and no.No a script wont make you shoot faster then the game will allow but if you concider the pistol script...

As you can probably deduce from my post that Im not exactly fond of scripts though Im not a hardcore anti-scripter either.I concider special scripts to be a lesser "cheat" which dose a lot of the finger work for you.
In a game like NS_ which is relatively slow (compared to games like Quake or AG) and gives you pleanty of time to do everything yourself scripting is rather a shortcut then a nesesity.

    back to the topic now....
Aim low and and you shouldent have problems with devouring.

    Here's my tip.
Stay away from devouring people please,we marines have enough problems unloading half an ammo depot into each elephant onos we come across. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif' /><!--endemo-->

1: Target Heavy Armor people or a key skilled player, even IF YOU DON'T NEED HEALING or whatever. That way, devour can take a player out of the game for about 45 seconds-1 minute, which replicated with mutliple onoses means that you have a good chance to attack while the marines are temporarily under-manned. <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif' /><!--endemo-->

2: When attacking a base, charge in and kill a marine, devour a second, then charge outta there. Think to treat the Onos as an advanced hit n run Fade, that can at the key moment attack the structures of a marine base.

Enjoy your onos, treat it well, and charge the marines 25 resources to ride it for 5 minutes. That works well too.
