Another Ns Installation Problem

ANYONE, PLS HELP !!

As claimed in the installation, I could proceed if I had a Counter-Strike Retail version installed. I had CS Retail with update 1.0.0.5 installed. BUT on the first screen of Natural Selection it denies I had HL 1.1.1.0 OR CS Retail 1.3 (!?) installed !!! Then it quits the installation process.

What did I do wrong here?

Then on this NS site, only HL 1.1.10 requirement is mentioned! So do I still need to install HL or can someone tell me whether CS Retail also allows installation?
Any help would be appreciated!

    Sorry for this post!

    I've found the post of MonsieurEvil (of 3Nov2002) that solved my problem! By downloading dummy hl.exe and putting it in my CS Retail folder (C:\Sierra\CounterStrike)

    Then finishing by changing the Natural Selection shortcut to point to your cstrike.exe instead of this dummy hl.exe which you can then delete.

    BUT I would like to mention that my problem occurred with my ENGLISH version of Counter-Strike!!!

    AI!! I was too early with my posts, again!

    NS still is not working right!! Now it is installing correctly an all but with my CS Retail, it simply lets me play CS with NS maps!!

    Even when I start NS according to MonsieurEvil's instructions, it all works well and I can go and join and create games. BUT......I only play as CT or Terrorists !! So I just expanded my CS with NS maps! <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Any ideas MonsieurEvil?

    uhm im not quite sure i understanded what you said but anyway. dont use the shorcut on the desktop with NS., use the one in ur start menu folder. and on ur main CS screen try going to custom game and selecting CS and loading it up again from there. otherwise i suggest re install of everything.

    Thanks for your replies.

    I've been reinstalling NS but the result is the same. I end up playing NS with CS's weapons and figures. I don't see any Marines or Aliens !!

    The installation path I've selected was:
    c:\sierra\Counterstrike

    That's where I've put the hl.exe as mentioned before as well.
    But I found that NS has created this c:\sierra\Counterstrike\NS nicely to put all it's files.

    Any ideas gentlemen?
    My last resort will be to get a copy of Halflife instead and install NS on top of that!

    I'm using CS retail with the latest update 1.0.0.5. English version.

    If it's not working with the dummy hl.exe, you have a borked install of the CS retail, typically with a partially coexisting copy of HL.

    As for CS retail not working, you are wrong. Either that or half our players on servers right now are imaginary, as about half use CS retail.

    lol dude, ill think you'll find that most people who play NS use CS Retail and hot Halflife (including me). it looks like you've got some files mixed up in the wrong directory's. try UNINSTALING all sierra products. go through your harddrive and CS directorys deleting any files that havnt already been. and then re install CS and NS from scratch. i think if you buy halflife and it doesnt work, you won't be too happy. try finding more information on the problem first before buying a copy of HL.

    Sorry 'bout starting a false rumour. Did not intend to.

    BUT ONLY HalfLife is mentioned and NOT CS Retail as in the NS requirements on <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/ns_home.html' target='_blank'>http://www.natural-selection.org/ns_home.html</a> !!!!

    Also, the above solution (with the fake hl.exe) should be mentioned and shared with others!

    Too bad to hear that many CS Retail owners don't have the problems I have on my PC which means I can't play NS on my PC. Period!
    As for my 'borked' copy, I don't have HalfLife and I also tried several times
    uninstalling and deleting all Sierra/CS folders. Still the same result.

    Hopefully the next updates of NS will bring solutions to my problem. For the time being, I'll need to find somebody else's PC to play on!
