My Ns Is Crashing When I Open Console Sometimes

I tried searching and came up with nothing, so here is my problem...
Now recently Ive been having problems with my NS crashing when I open my console, its not all the time or even most of the time, I was ignoring it for a long time but it happened twice yesterday in about 5 hours of play and just now after a little more then an hour today. I have tried on a couple servers and it isnt just the server. I am an admin on the server so I use console a few times a map sometimes. Its weird, at first i thought it was if I use voice comm but then yesterday it crashed just on its own, I was a skulk on ns_eclipse and it crashed while i was in the hive. So I really dunno whats up with that?
The other problem is sometimes I have problems with my weapons and selecting them, for example I spawned with knife out and didnt have pistol or lmg, but I dropped my knife and had an lmg, but when i try to switch, the hud is red for the logo. Someone tried to drop me a pistol and I couldnt pick it up. This problem isnt a big one, it has only happened twice to me in all my time in ns, just annoying. When I die I spawn with normal weapons again and all is fine.

This happens <b><i>only</i></b> in NS, and in no other mod. The chance of a lockup is so extreme, I won't play NS until this have been solved. A theory is that there's a glitch in the VGUI-code together with the popup-menu.
1) reinstall NS
2) reinstall HL/NS
3) reinstall Steam/HL/NS
4) Use malware scaners (AVG, SpyBot S&D, and AdAware)
5) If nothing works, then post this is the Bug forum (folow proper posting guidelines)
The only thing I can think of is that the gamma is getting restored to default (so the console text doesn't look washed out) when you bring up the console, so I wonder if this is a video card issue.
Is this crash problem only caused by you opening the console or does any other action trigger the crash?
Does opening the console, at any time while playing NS, cause a crash or only <i>sometimes</i>?

Yeah, seems you have the same problem.
I have reinstalled NS I beleave since it has started, I will consider doing this again, need to back up the custom models I have, I have had the problem for a while, through several custom models so I know thats not the problem.
I also have ad aware and norton and both do scans once a week and everything seems to be fine.
When it happens, I also have to hit the restart button, nothing else will work.
It only happens sometimes when I hit the console button, I use the button a couple times a day tho because I am an admin on the server I am on the most.

To fix that, type: "record *" (where the * is the name of it; the name doesn't matter). Then type: "stop" right away. That'll record a demo, but it should also give you all of your weapons back.
exact same problem as described.
it rarely happens the first, second or third time I open the console....but it will happen...at some point.
opening the console is basically russian roulette. I am also an admin, and it greatly harms my abilities to control games.
like, if some dude is going ape on the mic, and I want to kick him...I often open the console to warn him, I do..he calls me an ****, or makes some comment about my mother, so I go to kick him and instead...boom. system locks up.
sucks.
a way I COULD get around this is to use HLSW...but as soon as I alt-tab, I get gamma problems..and when I come back into NS, it's dark as hell.
I have all updated drives, a new monitor, etc.

Complete reformat and re-install of drivers + update seemed to help

Do you have issues where, when you open the console, it bugs the colors and such?
My major problem is my power supply... it's a whimpy 250 watt... for a 64 bit system with a 7200 RPM HD, 3 fans, 2.8 ghz cpu, and Radeon 9600 Pro...

bind your number pad keys to commands, or your F6-F12
I have F6 amx_kickmenu, F7 amx_banmenu, F8 amx_teammenu, F9 amx_voicemenu, ect
And type @x where x is the beginning of a colour in normal chat for amx_ssay, and @x where x is the beginning of a colour in team chat for amx_chat (admins only can see it)

My specs are very similar to BBgunBilly's, but I DON'T have this problem.
Guys, be sure to post up on your DirectX version, because that might have something to do with it.
Also, do you guys experience any other noticable oddities with gamma settings?

See what happens if you guys stand still and open the console.
Maybe it is an SP 2 bug as well? Nah... can't be... we ALL know that SP2 is PERFECT and doesn't cause ANY problems at all [/dripping sarcasm]
Try disabling Vsync or re-enabling it. Get an older version of the Catalyst drivers.
Also how many of you have the AGP texture acceleration on. If you dont have it, you need to install the Chipset INF drivers for your mobo. try a few things let me know.

Everything is up to date mostly. Maybe its a clash of some Half life files.
I have basically no idea about vid card settings.
I have the uptodate driver....and that's about it.
I haven't changed anything else short of screensize =p
so, it's not a result of fiddling with settings - as I haven't touched mine.

after one of these freezes, i once got this error report from windows XP:
The file or directory \Documents and settings...\Application Data\ATI\ACE\Profiles.xml is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the CHkdks utility.
and the game wouldnt even load until i ran scandisk and it fixed this file along with some steam caches, so this is defenitely a problem between ATI drivers and NS (it doesn't happen in DOD etc.) and the interesting thing is that this started happening only in beta5. Perhaps the cause for this problem is some kind of modification in VGUI.
