If you're reading this, you've probably already read the news that XP-Cagey upgraded the forums, both on the hardware and software ends. Assuming the mail functions of the site work, feel free to <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/view?action=mail&id=4105' target='_blank'>use them to thank Cagey</a>

Well he did constantly update the compile tools so we could fit more and more into our maps. Seems like a web site should be a piece of cake after that <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Awesome job, xp-cagey. Seems to be working like a dream... and faster it seems! We'll soon know as people realize the docking station reopened.

Yeah, it's drfuzzy's sig causing the problem cause it doesn't properly close the table started by the quote tag. Problem's with the ipb parser; I might look for a tweak, but it won't crash the site in the meantime <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

On the subject of speed, there's a little bit more config optimization that can be done to improve performance once we know we've squashed the MySQL problem, but stability is the goal for now.

NTFS can and does handle sizes over 2GB. MySQL's InnoDB engine was throwing an aborted Async I/O signal (windows error code 995) and then shutting itself down while attempting to read a 2.6GB file; this problem only was happening for this particular file, which was the only one over 2GB.

The folks at <a href='http://innodb.com' target='_blank'>InnoDB</a> have seen the error but haven't found a cause.

I agree with the good work getting the site back, and thankyou for the efforts everyone has put in, well done. However...

This site is (as far as im aware) the foundation of support/community for natural selection (i.e unknown worlds). It has thousands of visiters, gigabytes of traffic, and if I was an investor I would take the running/development of this site as a reflection of the people behind NS.

Yet...its allowed to go down on what seems a regular basis with no (apparant) thought of redundancy, mirroring or use of any of the other totally free stability enhancing technologies out there. I mean, personal websites containing your family photo album, sure, take it offline for upgrades...but surly something as big/important (from a business point of view to flayra/UW) as this site should have some kind of temporary mirror or something in place.

Im not having a go, I appreciate the site and game and the work everyone puts in...but from a business point of view it could have been handled better. Not saying the whole site should have stayed up (i know the forum consolidation afterwards from a mirror site would be a nightmare), but the download of the game, game information, investor info etc should have stayed up.

Im sure theres plenty of us in the community who are able to mirror the site in times of outage. In fact, take this as an offer from me as a starter.

    Jez.
