Until I get durability reviews :P
2 times, I've had to send in my PS2 to be fixed for manufacturer error. 6 hours total, I've spent on the phone telling these people that I hope this is the last time. 14 great games that I haven't been able to play because they couldn't make something right the first time.
Anyone else have any stories of how Sony can't get its act together? With how many times this has been happening, I'm seriously thinking about just not buying a PSP.

EEK, PSP is for chumps. Nintendo DS forever.
Never had a problem with my PS2 (and its old old old).
Never had a problem with my surround sound system, car stereo, or faceplate.

other than not being able to read scratchy discs, it works fine.

I believe I have like 135 stars or something now, it's getting real tough.
Personaly I think peoples PS2s acting ups is just people not taking care of their stuff properly and not holding the discs by the edge etc
I may just fix it myself- couldn't hurt it form now, eh?
Oh, how wrong you are, I've kept my PS2 in very good condition for the last 2 years, the only BAD thing I've done to it was watch Aliens 2 (Not Aliens, the one where Ripley's clone comes back and the immates are being used as guniea pigs) on it. And, just recently, it hangs at the menu for like 30 seconds before it finally reads the disc. PS2, PSX and DVD's, it's all the same...

You just look for any reason to attack me don't you?
Regardless, being I've never dissasembled a PS2, how would I get to the lense? I'm not very good with all of those things.
One. Tiny. Breaker. Has fried. We're going to the hardware store to get a new one some time this weekend.
Take comfort in the fact that while the PS2 disintegrated, the good old Box had nary a scratch up until that point. Plus her hammerblow barely moved it compared to the Gamecube.

That and the fact that its effin' bulletproof!
If you drop it, it will break. If you spill liquid on it, it will break. If you think about it too hard when it's in your backpack, it will break.
Oh, and the screen will get scratched. A lot.
The way the system looks has nothing to do with how durable it is. Performance over looks.

It's not an attack on you I'm just stating a fact really, take care of your stuff and it will generally last.....
As for cleaning the lens personally I would just open the thing up but be really careful about it when you do and remember where all the screws go etc.

Of course there are exceptions to the norm but the way the few people that do have PS2s that a broke harp on and whinge anyone would think that all PS2s are like that.
If the thing breaks and it's not your fault then it's a manufacturers defect and Sony will fix or replace it for you, if your having to pay for it to be fixed then it's your fault it's broke cos you miss-treated it in some way.
Well that's how it works here in the UK at least.
