Gah! I'm Never Buying A Sony Product Again

Until I get durability reviews :P
2 times, I've had to send in my PS2 to be fixed for manufacturer error. 6 hours total, I've spent on the phone telling these people that I hope this is the last time. 14 great games that I haven't been able to play because they couldn't make something right the first time.

Anyone else have any stories of how Sony can't get its act together? With how many times this has been happening, I'm seriously thinking about just not buying a PSP.

I don't have much Sony stuff, but my friend's PS2 takes a longer than usual time to load, and another friend of mine's PS2 sometimes goes in black and white and the sound cuts out.

I have a sony Trinitron flat screen monitor, and its the best monitor I've ever seen. It's huge, and only 17", but it has the best colors and perfect crispness. Never had a problem with it.

Never had a problem with my PS2 (and its old old old).

Never had a problem with my surround sound system, car stereo, or faceplate.

    Sony++

I don't own Sony gaming equipment, but rather a TV, stereo system (not speakers), cameras, MD players, even batteries. They're basically one of the best hardware types.

Fix it yourself man, it's like 5 minutes worth of work, take out the screws, pull off the top, unscrew the CD cover, and clean the leanse. Bam done. I've done this to mine like 7-9 times. And really it's just the older models that have this problem, pick up a new one and you should be fine.

I bought my PS2 when GT3 was released and have never had a problem with it *touch wood* It gets used to play all my DVDs as well as playing games on it.

Personaly I think peoples PS2s acting ups is just people not taking care of their stuff properly and not holding the discs by the edge etc
  • QuaunautQuaunaut The longest seven days in history... Join Date: 2003-03-21 Member: 14759Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
I got mine VERY close to after MGS2 came out- which is like a year or 2 after it came out(year probably).

I may just fix it myself- couldn't hurt it form now, eh?

Oh, how wrong you are, I've kept my PS2 in very good condition for the last 2 years, the only BAD thing I've done to it was watch Aliens 2 (Not Aliens, the one where Ripley's clone comes back and the immates are being used as guniea pigs) on it. And, just recently, it hangs at the menu for like 30 seconds before it finally reads the disc. PS2, PSX and DVD's, it's all the same...

My PS2 broke over a year ago. We've almost replaced it a few times, but money has been tight. Finally, my brother decides to open it up and what do we find?

One. Tiny. Breaker. Has fried. We're going to the hardware store to get a new one some time this weekend.

I have heard about a lot of my friend's PS2 breaking and having to send it to sony to get it fix. Strange how statistically xbox is more durable, considering that it has a built-in harddrive.

The last test wasnt fair, they didnt consider that xbox has higher attraction to the gravity and that it will almost never fall down due to the "snap off" controller cable.

Take comfort in the fact that while the PS2 disintegrated, the good old Box had nary a scratch up until that point. Plus her hammerblow barely moved it compared to the Gamecube.

Oh, and by the way, here is a durability review for the PSP:

If you drop it, it will break. If you spill liquid on it, it will break. If you think about it too hard when it's in your backpack, it will break.

Oh, and the screen will get scratched. A lot.

So the PSP is no different to most cellular mobile phones then (and the DS is like the clamshell flip-phones, the screen si safe but they are huge and look like they were designed for 3-year-old children-.-)

The way the system looks has nothing to do with how durable it is. Performance over looks.

It's not an attack on you I'm just stating a fact really, take care of your stuff and it will generally last.....

As for cleaning the lens personally I would just open the thing up but be really careful about it when you do and remember where all the screws go etc.

Of course there are exceptions to the norm but the way the few people that do have PS2s that a broke harp on and whinge anyone would think that all PS2s are like that.

If the thing breaks and it's not your fault then it's a manufacturers defect and Sony will fix or replace it for you, if your having to pay for it to be fixed then it's your fault it's broke cos you miss-treated it in some way.

Well that's how it works here in the UK at least.
