Damn you beta 4a's! lol

*snarl*
It seems everyone wants to stick with beta 4a, and finding a beta 6 server is simply luck (with people in it)

I've been trying to find a link to download patches to make my way from beta 1 to 4a, so I can acctually get into a game with people in it... Anyone know where I can download these files?

The current release available to the public is beta 5. Beta 6 is the one being playtested, available to PT's and constellation members.

Beta 5 can be found here.

Isn't there access to beta 4a files though? I've found links but they are all dead.

I just played beta 6 with ArchFiend - he is a constie member. He's complaining because half the time nobody plays beta 6. I think he's new to NS and stuff, because he thought that beta 4a was being playtested right now, too. So, I cleared that up with him and I think he knows now that beta 4a came before beta 5 and all of that.

It's not that I think beta 4a is being tested still.. To my knowledge it came out a little less than a year ago. Yes, 4 usually comes before the number 6, I know that as well. lol

You can't really test beta 6 with no people on the servers though can you? I'd much rather have the 4a client until more people are on 6. Or be able to switch between the two, that would be quite nice.

I suppose if the files aren't out there, I'll just have to sit back and check the server list for 6 every day to see when it starts to pick up.

What he's trying to say is that no-one sane in their head still pays 4a instead of 5. If you can't play Beta 6 (empty server, for example) play Beta 5, not beta 4a.

As to not being able to test it...AFAIK there is some hitbox issue or what not..../me wishes I had $20...

yeah, the current release is beta 5, and everyone is playing that. not many people are playing 6 cause it hasnt been fully released yet, and 4a is an old version, so stick to 5

I just installed b5 and see what you guys have been trying to say. I had assumed that the list of servers b6 was giving me was accurate: 4-8 b4a servers up, 1 b5 server up (which never had players) and the same with b6. I don't know why b6 shows the other servers but it was... Now that I have b5 installed I see a hell of a lot of people in them.

    Thanks for the posts!

Steam server list searches by folder

    NS beta 5= NS folder
    NS beta 4a+ NSP folder
    NS beta 6= NSP folder

Because beta 5 is the current version it is installed in the NS folder and any different versions were installed in a folder called NSP

I think the problem right now with Beta 6 is that everyone is waiting for the update to come out.

B6 doesn't see much play because the server files were released to the public, which lead to way too many servers for the number of players available, with a wide range of pings and plugins meaning it's very difficult to get any one of them filled up. The server files will be private again soon so that shouldn't be an issue anymore. There's also the fact that the site just went back up recently so not all consties may know about the beta, and some people are still having authentication issues. For every person actually on a server there are probably 3 that are looking to play, but it's just too hard to get a good game started.

As for B4a, that has nothing to do with B6, there's always been a small group of people who played it instead of B5. The reason you see them now is because they use the NSP folder just like B6 does; most of those people aren't consties so it's not like it's stealing the players.

Shouldn't this be in the Constellation forums?

the one and only reason why there aren't many players playing beta6... no more vets... In the "private" betas from 3.0a to 3.0g atleast 50% (usually even more) of the players where veterans in almost any server... sometimes there where only like 1-3 consties in a full server

    Do the math

That's because there were a stupidly large number of vets. We didn't have anywhere near these population issues before with the constie test before they were let in. Part of that was probably due to Combat being new, but still...

I agree that there where way too many vets but atleast we actually had some players playing the beta instead of empty servers almost all the time...

Another thing I wonder is how people think that removing the ability to host your own server will instantly bring 50-100 new active players to B6... If all servers are empty, does it change anything to drop their amount from 30-50 to 5-10... Anyway, hopefully it won't make any(more) harm to the playtest but I wouldn't be surprised to see all b6 servers still empty after the patch ( sometimes I just hope that I would be wrong )

Like I said, that wasn't a problem before the new vets came in, when it was just consties, PTs and old vets testing.

It will make all the difference. It's not a lack of active players that's the problem. I'd say it's primarily two things:

1.) Difficulty in getting a game started. People want to play but don't want to sit around while a server fills up, so empty servers tend to stay empty. Shrinking the server list will hopefully restore people's faith that the people will join the server quickly so the ball can get rolling more easily. Trust me, it was a lot better before.

2.) Server inconsistencies like plugins and pings make it even harder for people to find a game on a server they enjoy. When half the servers only run combat, or are in a different country, or run game-altering plugins, the odds of finding an active game on the remaining servers are rather small.

Both of these are fixed with private server files. Releasing the dedicated server only works in public betas; the first constie beta was always run by jarHedz and even without the vets they were usually full.
