Cannot Play The Game At All

I cannot play this MOD at all.

I have tried joining both through the in game browser and various other game launchers.

I have tried running it in 800 x 600 1024 x 768 and 1152 x 864 in both opengl and Direct 3d

I have tried all the fixes in the other thread and none have made any difference.

I try and join a server and it get to the point where the screen would scroll up as you join and it causes my machine to blue Screen forcing me to reset my machine.

Spec:

Win98se
1 Gig T-Bird CPU
384 Meg memory
Geforce 2 Pro graphics
Onboard cmedia sound
DSL Connection

    hmm wierd. Can you play HL and other mods? Have you tried a HL reinstall? Anything else running when you play?

    just some ideas.. I have not heard of any problems.

    Half-Life, Team Fortress Classic, Opposing Forces, Counterstrike, Day Of Defeat, Firearms, Action HL, Speedstrike they all run just fine it is only Natural Selection that crashes my machine.

    No there is nothing else running and yes I have reinstalled Half-Life

    Shame as well cus I have just setup a server on our clans dedicated server box and I can't even play the game <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    seems to me it's sound related. I don't know any commands to disable sound though, i think volume 0 in console just puts the soundlevel to zero instead of disabling it. BTW I noticed the mp3 sounds keep playing with volume 0. Maybe someone else knows a HL command to disable sound, otherzise you'll have to disable your soundcard in windows.

    Not a chance

    If it means diabling sound forget it I ain't playing it and our clan server will be taken offline.

    I am not going through all the hassle of uninstaling my sound card every time I wanna play 1 game and have to put it all back in to play everything else.

    i had the same problem, im pretty sure all i did was a complete un install of my CS Retail, and NS. manually delete any files that werent deleted. and then re install everything. worked fine.

    Before you give up, make sure of 2 things:

    1. You have the latest version of directx installed (yes, this affects sound too).

    2. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card.

    ok it is fixed with sound

    I droppped my soundcard from Full to Standard Acceleration and it seems to work fine now.

    You can set it in the HL config menu under the sound section, in reference to where A3D and hardware acceleration get checked on or off. You can also modify the config.cfg to give you the same results.

    In all cases folks - learn the forum search button, and look at the pinned topics in here. All this has been discussed 10 times over already.
