Cargo ship for ns sync.
Yes its pretty early preview straight out of milkshape.
The skinning and modell is only about 20% done i have managed to cut down the model from 1004 triangles to 798 without loosing to much of the coolnes of badmofos modell.
Its still missing the landing gear and some other stuff that i will add later and the white parts on it is yust the parts i havent had the time yet to roughly skin.
I will trye to put up some better shoots later when i have done some more.
And keep in mind the skin is rough draft that will change alot untill its finished.

Thanks iam planning to skin the whole ship with an rough skin and then concentrate on the skin later adding more detail and make it look more real with some dirt and stuff.

Looks awesome! I really like the unique look of this thing.

One thing I noticed... those large round thruster engine things on the wings... are they suppposed to rotate to face back? It doesn't quite look like they'd have a fun time doing so, if you know what I mean...
• Cliff_MellangardCliff_Mellangard Join Date: 2002-01-29 Member: 129Members
Thanks ken they are only vertical thrusters and cant be rotated.
To explain more so did i include badmofos awesome pencil drawing.

Um.. wow? That's some serious skill there. I can't wait to see this in the map, all finished and ready to just be gawked at. It looks great.

Awesome model, really nice. Only one thing bothers me though, those engines, that size being supported by a wing that thin just looks really odd. No way in hell would something thats able to generate enough lift to move that ship could be held with struts that thick.
I dunno maybe its just being picky but theres my feedback.

Other than that its really nice, that skin is especially good

I noticed that about the size of the thrusters too, but to tell you the truth, that's what I think makes it look so cool.

come on narb - its the FUTURE...hyper aluminum poly alloy!...it's the ONLY way to build stuff! ehehehehehe....i know the wings are thin - i purposely did that - i figure stuff in the future is more advanced and what not...besides - i think the curved thin wings look cooler than some big bulky support.

This could be real actually, certainly if the dropship should land on a spaceship. In space, there is no gravity and vaccuum, so streamlining is not needed, even supporting is not needed (maybe the thrusters could give so much power that they rip themselves off the plane, but with good flywork the pilot could easily avoid this), so a nice ship like 'voyager' or 'millenium falcon' could fly as easy as the borg cube...
• nrbynrby Join Date: 2002-03-05 Member: 270Members
Ya but if its gonna be on the landing pad of that rock face, the planet will have gravity (probably similar to earths given that marines are walking around on it)

Either way, it looks cool. I'm just being picky :x

Excuse me for being dense but where does the cargo fit in this cargo ship?
• KassingerKassinger Shades of grey Join Date: 2002-02-20 Member: 229Members, Constellation
Hmm, yeah how big is it compared to (us) marines? I'll love seeing that ingame.

What makes models use less wpoly than worldcraft stuff? Is it that it only renders one side of each polygon, right?
• ChromeAngelChromeAngel Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 14Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
I think models use less polygons because the modeller has total control over how the faces are split into polygons. A good modeller can split the faces more economically than the map compilation programs can.

I think...
• badmofobadmofo Join Date: 2002-01-28 Member: 121Members
no no no.

1 - Models dont take up ANY wpoly. They take up epoly (polygons specified by your gun model, player models, and any other model). There are two reasons models are picked over brushes in certain situations.
A: the engine renders models faster than it does world brushes...i dont know why, but it does. For this reason then, a model with 1000 polygons get's rendered at the same speed as a brush with 100 polygons. You can see the advantages here.
B: models do not take up and plane count...giving the mapper more room to add "architecture" into his map than having details like this take it up.

OKAY, now that that's taken care of...about the ship...it's VERY big...you've all seen the landing pad in my posts...if you haven't check out this one: TOPIC The tansport takes up the entire pad...and it's not very long compared to it's height and width, so you can imagine how big it will look in game...the cockput part in the front fits two marines...so although this isn't a freighter...it's a pretty big ship.

I think that skin needs a lot of damage, dirt, and whatever. I know that you'll work on that, though. I do like the yellow on the edges there. I think that that'll contrast very well with the rock face and the lighting that'll be on the landing pad.

that looks fabulous

lookin good - it's scary how effectively your reproducing (and surpassing) that little sketch i did. Can't wait to see it when you start detailing this sucker out. and thanks for shortening the nose like i asked...looks better now.

Looks great, Cliff!

But yes... It could definately use a bit (a lot) of dirt and wear. I'm sure you're fully aware of this though.

/me wants more.

its kinda annoying when ppl go to the trouble of saying stuff and then ppl ask where the wear and tear is on the skin . . .

hey i dont give a sh*t, it looks good.

Doesnt matter about gravity, this is the future anti-gravity suppose could help with the so called "realism" of the ship landing on a planet to counter-act the gravity.

Hey its a game, do what you like make it as big/ugly or sexy/sleek as you like we will still love being dropping into the battle by it .

lol - for the last time! ITS A TRANSPORT SHIP FOR CARGO! NOT A drop ship. If any dropships are made they should be by the dev team so the game keeps it's sense of consistency...this is merely a cargo freighter.

(although if the team would like me to go design a military drop ship i'ld be ecstatic)

Lighten up, Black Wolf. What's with the hostility around here? Please excuse my rushed, useless, and obviously bothersome reply. If that's even what you're referring to... of not... oops.

Both Greedo and I made a comment very similar to: "Though I'm sure you're aware of this."

I really don't like the idea of having to be so careful about what I say here... this is supposed to be fun, afterall. It would be really cool if we all just settled down a bit here.

And don't even think about coming back with referrence to my posts ranting on the questions about r_speeds a while back... that was different... it was excessive. This was a simple line overlooked, and not something that's happening often anymore.

Anyway, PEACE ALL.

BTW, /me wants to see badmofo's stab at a dropship.

Wouldn't hurt anything to submit a concept drawing or something. They may already have plans for this, but like I said... worth a try.

An official dropship, possibly drawn by badmofo, made 3d by Cliff and, urrr, accepted by Flayra & friends would be just lovely for the continuum in the NS maps. :S
