<div class="IPBDescription">WIP - HMG</div> Greetings all!
One of my good friends, (LaserBeams) decided to model my most recent concept:
<img src='http://stupidsid.250free.com/weaponconcepts/Avro60calHMGP7.png' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Into this: (BEHOLD! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
<img src='http://stupidsid.250free.com/weaponconcepts/avro16render02.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Notice how the drum mag seems "flipped" from the concept? Well, think of it this way: since this weapon is a Bullpup with a Drum Mag right behind the main grip, you'd think that your wrist would bump it when holding the gun, eh? Not to mention that the Marine's hand would clip through the mag in NS - and feel very uncomfortable, too. But now since the Magazine now "flows" with the gun, none of that would happen.
And ontop of that, it would also work in real life. (Now, I'm no Sheena, but I do know roughly what I'm talking about).
For the bullets to get aligned with the barrel, this HMG would use the same technique that the P90 uses. Smart, eh? <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Alright - I hear you say, "But Sid - something that Sexy must weigh SO MANY polies!!"
Get ready for this...
Are you ready?
Sexyness cost: 2402 polies. No joke.
About the Gun:
-.60AE Caliber, 125 hollowpoint rounds
-Drum Magazine
It's a HMG replacement, with a heavy frame surrounding the gun to support it, and a built-in shock absorber in the Stock. (Notice the spring?)
Much props to LaserBeams for doing such a great job on the model.
Anybody want to take a crack at compiling this? Then the skinning can begin!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
P.S. What is the most perferred model format for you guys? (Besides .ms3d). This model was created with "Rhinoceros" - and it can export into just about any other model format. Please say which format you would like and I can see what I can do. =D
Thanks for your time,

well my hat's off to you for your skill; I tried it in late 97 and was confused to hell by it. So, good job mate <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Can you maybe make it into a DoGA file? I may be able to at least skin it then...
First person who ridicules me for using DoGA gets a good old flame.

I'm inclined to believe it's the former.
In that case, double the polycount, and that's what the HL engine will use.
Rhino....I used to use it, until I figured out you weren't supposed to. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Why do you think that? If you don't know much about modelling don't assume things. Some people are good at conserving polygons, and It's quite possible that it's only 2402. Sure it's not insane, but it's a good deal, and a good number for such a model. Also there's no need to double the polycount; the model already is in great shape and once it has a skin, no more detail will be needed. Polies are not everything.
I used Rhino before, and its default file uses quadrilateral polygons, not the triangles that we're accustomed to seeing with the HL engine (practically every game engine processes triangle polygons since they are always planar). If you wanted to convert the model into a .smd file, you'd have to convert the Rhino .3dm file and at least double its polygons (from quadrilaterals into triangles).
That, was my point.

Ok, yes so you had half a point, but you must remember who you're talking about; sure it was modelled in rhino (dur i have too, and I know it's quads) but the vast majority of us here know that polys for HL = TRIs. And that gun very likely has only 2400 tris
As for technical details... Yes, the 2400 count is in triangles. A few quads must have snuck in there somehow, it's actually 2408. I left out a few little details (safety, fire selector, etc., plus I noticed a few glitches, so it would prolly end up around 2450, but definitely less than 2500. Included is a mesh render for those who want to see what it looks like that way:
Keep it up, I wana see this finished.
That is so awesome! Thanks so much!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
what are you talking about. I'm helping you animate your HMG, that's all. I never agreed to anything else. Aside from that I'm too busy to do anything else sorry.
I meant what I said in a way that if you did it as appose to me i'd look nub <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
jus kidding
anyone?
no one knows how to convert it to a DoGA file?
damn...
