<div class="IPBDescription">Closer moderation called for</div> What the hell is with the amount of _special scripts popping up in every goddam thread in this forum?
As far as I am aware <b><i>discussing game exploits on these forums is a bannable offence</i></b>, people really need to get a clue or see their accounts banned. Just my personal opinion but I've seen too much exploit code in this forum over the last few days (which I'm sure it was not designed for) to stay silent.
<b>That's right. In b5 _special is an exploit</b>

If I caught someone doing that silent walk duck exploit thingy, id warn them not to do it, and if they did it again, I'd smoke em.

It's not an exploit, it's a technique. It makes you a lot slower than if you're not using it.
I've done it on your server, without any script whatsoever (go go bind ctrl +duck).
I guess you're supposed to ban me now. :(
coris there's this amazing feature of forum software. It's called a PM. Use it instead of spamming useless crap into this thread in future.
_special is an old legacy command back before Steam and even the new netcode. After a certain update to HL the command was abandoned, but not completely removed from the engine.
The command doesn't end and just repeats at timed intervals. The command itself doesn't do anything anymore, but defining it as an alias gives it new functionality while still keeping it's quality to repeat itself.
It is an exploit of the HL engine and has been for a <i>very</i> long time. Some may see it as another "tool" at their disposal, scripting wise, but the fact of the matter is _special was just another one of Valve's mistakes they failed to fix and probably don't care about just like the echo command.
If you run an alias, it goes right to the command(s) defined in the alias, without allowing any other commands to be run in the meantime. This means that if you were to create a recursive script without using _special, it would lock you up indefinitely while it repeated. You would be unable to run any commands, including the command to stop the script.
The difference with _special is that it allows other commands to be run in between the time when you run +attack2 or special, and the time when _special is executed. This means that you can create a recursive script that repeats as long as you want it to, and doesn't lock you up while it is running.

38% to be precise, and _special is not required for such a script.
