Sound Problem

Suddenly 1 day after another the sound in NS only seem to stutter and sound really bad, and I can't fix it <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' />

What i tried:

Reinstalled sound drivers
and set sound to low quality

Problem is still there <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' />

Let me guess. This is only happening when you hear .mp3's in game (a lot of maps use them for the atmospheric music), and the scratchyness will go away after a few minutes.

If you said yes to those symptoms, you have the same problem I had a few months back! But the reason it happened to me though is because I installed sven-coop, and somehow when I uninstalled it my ns sounds returned to normal.

I uninstalled sven and still the problem is there is can easily notice it when I shoot with the standard machinegun

Maybe you could just try a fresh NS install? Perhaps just try to delete your entire half-life folder and just reinstall. Also, what kind of sound setup are you using? A sound card? Integrated? Does this problem happen in other games? Other HL mods? In HL2 mods?

I just joined a server and the sound and music was awful, and stuttered all the time <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' />

I did a fresh NS install

It's an integrated soundcard

Ac97 via audio (pretty standard)

I never had this problem except suddenly for now and not with any other game that runs under steam

on the off chance that it might be this simple, try turning down your main volume, while turning up volume on our headphones or speakers to compensate. if your main volume is too high, the sound quality will suffer

I posted about this below. Within the last week, my NS sound has started to stutter. Unfortunately, it makes the game unplayable when its bad. Turning EAX off and reducing the sound quality improves matters, but doesn't fix the problem completely.

Nothing has changed on my box. The only thing I can think of that has changed in the NS world is the release of 3.0.4.

I'm running with a disintegrated SBLive which is a great card.

I've yet to ascertain whether there's something networky going on. I haven't yet had time to net_graph 3 the problem or mess with the rates. My cable connection hasn't been brilliant lately and I've been suffering from daily connection dropouts. So, as yet, I'm unsure.
