This thing is very, very slick.
You start off w/ a zoomed out map of the US, you can zoom in and it streams you the images of the streets as it generates them. That's a neat trick, but the part that's really impressive is when you search for something.
You can search for a location either by name or address, and it will add relative spots to the map. The slick part is that if you click on the tear-drop shaped icon it'll center the map to that location and pop up a window telling you all about that place. Address, phone number, and even a URL if available.
And of course you can spell it wrong, and autocorrect helps you out.
Once again, all praise Google. May they crush their enemies into tiny bits.

*praises Google*
Google wins at everything; email, search, now maps, and the plethora of other nifty gadgets that they have (in Google labs).
This is great, it's so easy to use, and so incredibly fast! I found my street within maybe 20 seconds, just by zooming it (not by using address). Whee.
GoogleOS.
I'd use it. :D

You'd be surprised how many rumormongers have already claimed to hear that it's in the works right now.
And considering that one of their awesome combination puzzle/job application schemes recently involved a question like "Name 10 things you would change about Unix," it really doesn't surprise me.
[edit]Ah, I found it again. My previous quote was slightly off, the actual question is "What's broken with Unix? How would you fix it?" It's on the 2nd page of the Google Labs Aptitute Test, which totally pwns the SAT.
Is there anything they can't do?

Hehe HL²:G the "search" for the "G"-Man. Find him while using google to get hints which pronsites he visited!
To Europeans: it's not like they're not going to make a Europe edition. You'd rather they wait to release it until they have the entire globe covered?

and Puerto Rico, or so it would seem.
And those sponsored ads generate more than you'd think. I did some work researching that. They can get a few thousand a day from a single link.

Uh, it's a beta. Where do YOU suggest they start? Ethiopia?
They're a publicly traded American company with stockholders to satisfy. They can either take 4 years mapping the rest of the world THEN release the awesome mapping service, or put it out in beta like they do everything else and be the awesome company they are. It's not bigotry, it's common sense.
