<div class="IPBDescription">..and I need your help!</div> Hey guys as the topic says I am applying for a job with Blizzard. The position is for a Web Editorialist (English) in Europe, and I was wondering if there is anyone that can help me out with my Cover Letter / Resume?
I'm new to all of this due to being so young, although it doesn't hurt trying. My cover letter and resume is below.
Note: Resume & cover letter probably isn't up to standard as the section of school for CV/resume making wasn't included as part of my education, weirdly.

Dear Vivendi Universal Games International
I am writing in response to the advertisement of employment on the Blizzard Entertainment website. The employment position I am writing for is that of “Web Editorialist – English”. I am currently an unemployed A-Level student with a passion for computer gaming and the English language, looking to further the skills I have.
The advertisement was particularly interesting and caught my attention due to my passion for games and creative writing. Due to the position on offer being based upon a previous series of games of which I play, developed by Blizzard, I found the advertisement highly attractive. The Warcraft series has influence my writing in several ways, most notably being the knowledge of fantasy creatures which I can now include among my writing. I believe I am suitable for the position because of my educational skills and extra curricular skills, which include experience in web design and basic knowledge of HTML. All of which is enclosed with this letter, on my resume.
I look forward to putting my knowledge and skills in to practice for the company and community. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely

Comments
Note the address given for 'Blizzards' Europe offices match exactly those of Vivendi Europe. The prospect of being Vivendi's Blizzard B***h doesn't sit well with me. Thought I'd just inject that note of fear before you get involved. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
- Shockwave
Blizz works with VUG?
so they do, vug published atleast the diablo games...
huh, didn't know that.
Just a few nitpicky comments (the type that is needed for these types of documents). Strikethroughs are obvious, anything in italics and parentheses was added in by me as a comment and should be removed, bold is used to draw attention to things that need to be changed.
I think the last sentence would sound good if it was combined with the previous sentence (without changing the word like I suggested), except that you end up with one long sentence if you do that. There's probably a better way of changing the last sentence, but that's the best I could think of.
Good luck getting the job.
Eg: - German and French Web Editorialists, Fluent in English (as a native language)
Mention that you're studying French which has not only given, as you'd expect, the ability to communicate in French, but also has reinforced your understanding and application of the English language.
- Excellent web copywriting skills (script writer, story liner ability, imagination & creativity required)
Mention that you map and that you write fiction, giving links to the best examples of your work. (I'm not entirely sure what they mean by web copywriting skills, and if you're not then you should make sure you do so that if they call you up you're not caught unawares).
Also avoid repetition of words and phrases, such as:
"with a passion for computer gaming and the English language"
"with a passion for gaming and creative writing"
I'll send you a cover letter I sent to a company while here in Barcelona (don't worry, it's in English), for your reference. Maybe you can take some key phrases to add clout to your application.
Looking at it again I think it was quite an informal application, but the main points are there.
<!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->Please find attached my Curriculum Vitae.
Hello Abigail,
As far as previous professional experience, which is mentioned but not detailed in the attached CV, I have worked as a sales assistant in a Ski and Sport shop (Finches) and a messenger (internal courier) for Merrill Lynch in their offices in London. While each of these cultivated public relation skills, the latter involved a much more formal procedure and as such I am able to deal with the public regardless of the level of professionalism required.
At Durham University I was a member of the Social Committee, stengthening my work skills twofold. As Publicity Officer I was required to work on an individual basis to put together every poster for every event at College. This involved liaising with both members of the Social Committee and third parties such as printing services to arrive at a finished product. For the events themselves (themed nights, formal meals, balls, trips to clubs etc.) each member of the committee was required to show both initiative and coherent teamwork to put together an entertaining and professional event.
To fulmil my academic requirements any job that I take in Barcelona must involve a certain degree of spoken and written Spanish language (castellano). This could be manifest in regular translation, written documents, public relations etc. If you have any such openings and, indeed, if I fit the profile for a prospective employee in your company, please contact me via email.
Yours sincerely,
Stephen H C ETHERIDGE <!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
I think it was for working the phones for a construction company here in Barcelona, so basically I showed that I had communication skills and also picked out the most relevant areas of experience in my previous jobs and societies.
Mum is on at me to get off my a** and get a job, and seen as both of us don't like my current school and the schools in the area, she made me apply for something.
Thanks for the advice and help Crispy!
Do you HAVE to include everything concerning GCSE grades in it? I don't mean to offend you, but "F" grades don't make prospective employers jump for joy, even if it is some pile of *ahem* like RE.
Good luck with the application, I'm sure you'll get some great experience doing something like that.

Apparently it shows how I'm versatile and non-linear, even if it is an F grade.
PS: 2 A4 Pages on my R.E. exam contained the word "fish" wrote over and over <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Useful fact, someone raid a GCSE pupil exam paper storage cabinet from the year 2004 and find my paper for proof.
Feel free to lie a bit about your grades. In other words, put down that you got a "D" in Religious Studies. Honestly, they never check. My sister got an F in Home Ec. at A-Level; she's been passing it off as a C for over ten years, and has never been caught out.
You've never peeled potatoes in a small restaurant's kitchen? Done a paper-round? Working at a McDonalds? Even "previous jobs: burgerbaron" sounds better than nothing.
If you get to the interview stage, let us know. (:
I'll go further in depth when I finish this damned coursework. For now, I will depart with this: in the first line of your letter, you use "due" twice in quick succession ("due to...Due to..."). Don't.
Anyway it's better to go halfway and say what you studied but not what you got for GCSE. I'm also sorry to rain on your parade but GCSEs don't mean much once you've finished your A-levels (as such it's not worth even mentioning them on your CV, but seeing as you don't have A-level results yet it's at least nice to show something). Also this job would imply that you move to France! Dunno whether that floats your boat, and they might even ask you to come for interview in France.
As for what you Mum said, she probably means getting a summer job or something, or if she really does mean going into full-time employment, then I'd suggest that you start low and work your way up. Employers usually want you to have professional experience before they hire you, so if you can get some experience in a related field of work (internet cafe, get a few webmaster contracts under your belt, etc.) then you'd stand more of a chance of getting a job like the one you mentioned.
LOL nice one <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Crispy: Any type of job would do, she doesn't want me to end up a bum like some of my other relatives.
And my surname sucks, although you pronounce it as it looks, its really just "Death" and "Ridge", the amount of times I've seen a doctor write it down incorrectly still makes me laugh out loud <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
