<div class="IPBDescription">to hear meeeeeh</div> Ok.. a bit of explenation..

I use a mic but ppl often say they can't hear me.. Point is, if I place the mic further away to eradicate static, they say its ok.. next server they say put it closer..

WTH? o_O

Ok.. there is a command in HL to hear your own microphone. It feedsback the info to yourself aswell..

I forgot this command. anyone knows? This way I can hear if its ok, rather then to rely on wrong opinions

    Try Options, Voice, there you can test it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    After that nub Starchy had a go at me for deafening him whilst activating my mic in TeamSpeak; I suggest you go into Windows Sound Recorder and test it there. Then you can find out whether the problem is the mic or Half-Life.

    If the mike is too close, you get static, if it's too far away, you get dropout. Mike quality is also an issue, as also the type it is (Some read directly in front of them, others read sound from the sides.)

    I'm not sure about the differances between server to server, but it can deal heavily from person to person because of how high they're comfortable putting the volume at.

    And honestly, the commander has too much on his plate to stop all commanding aspects to type out a message, unless you're just that fast of a typer.

    It also depends what type of codec is activated for this server. Half-Life now support an alternative and imho better codec called Speex (the old one is Miles).

    If Speex is activated you have to tune down your microphone.

    For server ops:
    sv_voicecodec voice_speex
    sv_voicequality 5

    Better quality and 50% bandwidth usage as the Miles codec. But some very old soundcards may have problems with that codec but since activated on my server I never ever had any user having problems with that codec.

    (Btw, the cord that goes to the computer is a regular Extension cord Soldered to a mic jack at one end and the Mic at the other <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Its only anoying if you use it too much. I much prefer it when people use voice than text, but when they start screaming because a fade is chasing them.. mute all the way <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    made this to test out my mic, very useful:

    <!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->alias vloopback vloopoff
    alias vloopon "voice_loopback 1; alias vloopback vloopoff"
    alias vloopoff "voice_loopback 0; alias vloopback vloopon"<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

    bind a key to vloopback, and it will toggle between loopback on/off.
