Random Lockups

I play ns like 20 hours a week.. and am positive that they are completely random
No key combos, no locations on maps, no times, no anythings... completely random lockups.. with ONE exception
I never lock up while in the comm chair... EVER
I can play 4 hours comming and NEVER lock up.......
any other time is fair game....
Most other games dont have this problem.. but HL, all HL mods, and HL2 do this on my computer......
Latest drivers for EVERYTHING

2GB Corsair XMS (2x 1 gb) @ 2.5 3 3 8 @ 206mhz 1:1 divider
PNY Geforce 6800Ultra @ stock speeds with 67.02 drivers (drivers dont help, i know these are betas but no change with versions)
DXDIAG, sound accel at basic..
The lockup consists of the screen freezing... and a sound looping for ~ 5 seconds before complete silence..
~10 percent of the time i can ctrl alt delete, bring up task manager, minimize it, and the game will un lockup... but most of the time not....
Help??

When you say "most other games don't have this problem" do you honestly not have locking up issues or stuttering problems with other games?
by the description of your lock ups it sounds hardware related..
But
When im moving around in NS, someitmes it diecides that it wont compute the other key's im pressing so when i go forward then strafe left it locks up and keeps walking forward into a wall.
Also whan I jump it seems like its locking up too. I press the space bar and nothing happens until 2 secconds later.
And when i preess TAB it brings up the scoreboard but when i let go NS locks up and the scoreboard stays on the screen untill it un-locks up.
I cant turn when I'm locked up either.
Sometimes while its locked up and i continue to press keys my computer would make horrid beeping sounds from the speaker inside the computer tower.
I KNOW its not lag because when i checked the scoreboards my lag would be about 90. I've never had problems at 90...or even 175 for that matter.
I've only recently started to play NS again after I left during NS 3 beta 2. Back then the game worked fine however there were occasional lock ups even then but they were ususally so rare i left them unnoticed. In beta 5, every one of my movements locks up.
my specs:
P4 2.8
1G DDR333
40G HD
And heres the kicker, dunno if its a coincidence
6800 ultra VGA.
SDJason, I don't have any ideas about your problem. Good luck on finding a solution.
