About Alien flashlight.... 1-Make it works ONLY when there is at least 1 Sensory chamber in the game 2-Or simply don't make it endless.
Finally aliens can spot sneaky marines in dark sneaky corners! I was hoping for Enhanced HS to come back in some form so aliens can again assume the role of the hunters in dark areas <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Of course, I don't know how it plays, but I guess I'll wait and see (when beta 6 goes public)

Kharaa (skulks especially) need to hide in shadows, so it makes sense that they can see well in the dark.
Or...
Nanites.
(or is that bacterium, from the Kharaa point of view???)

I'm all for easy spotting of marines (especially since I run an ATI on Cat drivers... gg darkness).... but making them that see-through just doesn't look good. It makes it seem as if the marine is not solid. I'd prefer a surface glow for the marine, rather than that transparent effect.
Now that the aliens are back to their rightful place as masters of the dark corners, I wonder what the chances are that we might see the flare plugin incorporated into the game? Personally, I always liked that one.
About my only qualm with this is that it will more or less eliminate the ninja marine. Maybe that's intentional, but I still remember one of the best experiences being when me and a fellow marine were in mineshaft, and ninja'd our way to a hive, watching several aliens run right by us. New alien flashlight means that won't happen again.
On the other hand, I suppose this equalizes the game vs. those who crank their gamma to eye-bleed levels.
As for those who think the hive should say when someone's approaching? I'd say that given the boosts to sensory and flashlight, if the alien team can't spot a marine getting into their hive, they deserve every second of misery that marine can provide.
And I don't see any optical nerves on the hive. And it's fun being able to sneak into an undefended hive and put up 6 tfs and Elec em all under the hive. Good times <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Wouldn't it make more sense to make it really hard to see the marines in bright areas when the flashlight mode is on? I mean, I'm all for this new flashlight mode, but if it's gonna be new like this, then everyone will just press f at the start, and leave it on the whole time.

Though I think perhaps it would be best tied in with sensory chambers? Or better yet, a part of SoF (see quote about seeing marine through wall, but not in front of you)

Since marines have flashlights and the new alien flashlight allows them to see rines, I think they should go ahead and make the maps a lot darker now, or maybe even make a pre-set gamma lock so everyone's gamma is the same.
